Laxman Singh Bhandari won Gold & Bronze Medal at 16th Asian Arm Wrestling Championship 2017, Kyrgyzstan


Delhi-resident Laxman Singh Bhandari started Arm Wrestling in 1989 and straight away defeated the then state champion. From there on, there has been no looking back! he has won several medals at State and National levels and participated in two Asian and two World Asian Arm Wrestling Championship.

Recently, he won the Gold & Bronze Medal in the 70kg Master category at the 16th Asian Arm Wrestling Championship 2017 held at Bistory, Kyrgyzstan from 5-11 June organized by the Kyrgyzstan Arm Wrestling Federation. He has also been honoured for promoting Arm Wrestling by the Asian and World Arm Wrestling Federations.

Not only this, he is the General Secretary & Coach of Arm wrestling Association of New Delhi, Technical Director of IAF, Sr. Referee of World & Asian Arm Wrestling Federation. To promote the sports, he also provides free Arm wrestling training in Delhi every Sunday and has trained thousands of students till date and launched this sport in various school, Colleges, Universities and other institutions.

However, due to absence of government recognition, Laxman and other players has to bear lodging, boarding and training costs himself for all the championships. The World Arm Wrestling Championship 2017 is scheduled to be held in Budapest, Hungary from 2nd to 11th Septemberthis year and without sponsorship, it would be impossible for him to participate.

Laxman’s dream is to win the Gold medal in the World Arm Wrestling championship and he hopes that the Indian Government will recognized this popular and highly economical sport which is played by all age categories in male, female that including disabled and Master too. He wants that this sport should include in the Olympics, so that this sport gets more promotions and we can bring medals for the country.
