SDKS carries out tree plantation programs in Dwarka

Sukh Dukh Ke Sathi Sanstha (SDKS), an association of senior citizens in Dwarka, carries out tree plantation programs in Dwarka in general and in Sector 22/23 and nearby area in particular, every year. The Sanstha started its current year’s tree plantation drive on 15th March from the DDA Park behind Sadbhavna Apartments in Sector-22 of Dwarka. Several saplings of ‘Panda’ and other varieties of trees and plants were planted by the Sanstha on this occasion with great zeal and enthusiasm, with the help of Horticulture Department of Delhi Development Authority who provided the saplings of the trees and plants, necessary tree guards as well as their staff to assist the Sanstha.

P.B. Mishra, General Secretary SDKS, informed Dwarka Parichay that this park was taken over by a nearby school in the name of maintenance of greenery under the scheme of DDA but they used this park as sports ground for its students and awfully ruined the greenery instead of maintaining it. “The maintenance contract was cancelled by the DDA for breach of the contract terms but the school managed to take stay from Delhi High Court and continued to use the park as its own sports ground. Now the term of contract has expired, the park has been taken over by the DDA and we are determined not only to restore its greenery but to make it better than earlier with the help of the DDA”, he further said. Capt S.S. Mann, an environmentalist and Vice-President of SDKS said that the Sanstha chose this time for the plantation because saplings planted during February and March have proven to have maximum rate of survival. The program ended with refreshment arranged by SDKS for its participating members and the staff of DDA Horticulture Department.
