India today, has become ripe as a nation to come up with dedicated allocations of budget on cybersecurity. Earlier, cybersecurity was never given such an importance in the budget but owing to the historical events that have taken place in India, post demonetization, specific allocations on cybersecurity budgets is a sine qua non if any actions are to be taken against the massively increasing cybersecurity breaches. Not just specific allocations, but spending heads within different categories of cybersecurity spendings in the budget need to be allocated, so that there is more clarity on the appropriate financial support and various capacity building measures in this direction.

The 10% figure of allocation to cybersecurity in the entire IT Budget is extremely meagre. India is a different ballgame altogether, and if it has to become a digitally empowered nation and a global IT superpower that it aims to be, then there needs to be a bigger percentage figure allocated to cybersecurity, of the total IT Budget in order to be able to create a mechanism that will survive the growing attacks by state and non-state actors on the Indian Critical Information infrastructure. The need for more spending in India on cybersecurity is higher than the global average because of India’s high aspirations and hopes in the Digital India program. Cybersecurity is the foundation fulcrum and if that is not adequately addressed, the entire Digital India Program may be prejudicially impacted.

India needs adopt a ‘leapfrogging method’ rather than a traditional one. With emerging technologies like IoT (Internet of Things), AI (Artificial Intelligence), Blockchains etc., spending needs to be done in the said emerging sectors, both the corporate and government level. By insisting on government departments on having CISOs in place, India can instantaneously put focus on the significance of cybersecurity.

A hybrid approach needs to be taken by keeping in mind the existing technologies as well as putting focus on new technologies. As a growing digital power, India cannot exclude concentration on newly emerging technologies like IoT, blockchain and AI, as they are more critical and can help in becoming catalysts to further India’s growth.

Importance of Motivation to lead a successful life

Motivation is the characteristic that helps you achieve your goal. It is the drive that pushes you to work hard and reach whatever it is that you are after. It is the energy that gives you the strength to get up and keep going - even when things are not going your way.

Motivation can be intrinsic or extrinsic (internal and external) - With extrinsic motivation, you are motivated by rewards from an external source - you will be inspired by the recognition that you will get from external sources. Intrinsic motivation is something internal - you are motivated to reach your goal for your own internal benefits - Example - reading a book so that you can get the grade you are after versus reading a book so that you can learn something.

Intrinsic motivation is better than extrinsic motivation. But for many finding intrinsic motivation is not easy - it has to come from inside out. But once you get it, intrinsic motivation is much more powerful than the extrinsic.

Positive Motivation is where the focus is on what you want to achieve. You know where you're going. It is the result of positive thinking and will cause a sustained progress towards your goal. Holding the image of your goal in your thoughts will attract the inspiration needed to get you there. Its effect is strong and consistent and the results achieved are prolonged and steady.

Negative Motivation can best be described as wanting to get away from an existing condition. A good example is someone that has grown up in poverty and will do anything to not fall into it again. This is a strong motivation and can be an effective "Kick Start" but the results it achieves are markedly different from those of Positive Motivation. The effect can often be likened to a roller coaster ride. A classic example is the countless millionaires who make their fortunes and lose them time and time again. This type of motivation lacks the sustained results that come from Positive Motivation.

Self-motivation is a continuing process and the only way we become better and stronger is to create a few mistakes along the way and also face a few setbacks. In essence, you must take a specific sum of risk because it is the fantastic occasions and the bad that forces us to a better person.

The thing with us Personal Development types is, we're always talking about creating our best life.
We know that success is represented by different things for different people, but society teaches us that success is typically about money, position, attractiveness, power and influence There is are actually three effective ways on how you can easily motivate yourself and get things done easily.

First thing to remember, it is important to stay focused. Keep focused not on your things that you are facing with, but focus on the reward of that task once it has already been completed. Now, wouldn't that be much better if we know there is something waiting for us after completing that task? That is a pretty good motivation to think of. Keep your attention on your work and on your work alone - through this it will further help you to motivate yourself in completing the work rather than saving it for later.

Secondly, make sure that it is clear to you why you wanted to finish those things done. Preserve a clear vision of what you want. Visualize your wanted output and keep that in mind not until you are not yet done with the work. It is important that you are clear with the reason and you will simply get the motivation that you need.

And lastly, establish a daily habit in completing the things that needs to be done. Do the important tasks during a particular time every day. Make sure that you would only do important tasks during that time that you have set. Discipline yourself to follow to your own schedule, as motivation itself would always come with self-discipline below are great self motivation tips that are sure to help you become more active and productive every day.

Tips for Motivation
· Know what you want to do and what you want to achieve, be it a long-term or a short-term goal. Make sure they are achievable. Write them down and post it on your wall where you can see it every morning. Make it a habit to read them out loud. Visualize them and share them with your friends.
· Get yourself an accountability partner / coach.
· Share your dreams, plans and goals with your coach, create a realistic action plan and then get busy.
· Create a to-do list and do the stuff you've been avoiding, first.
· Consciously avoid making excuses.
When you feel an excuse climbing up onto your tongue... give yourself an uppercut.
· Have something to look forward to when you wake up each morning. Think of the happy and good things that are going to happen on that day. Doing this will surely set your mood and mindset for the rest of the day.
· Discover the best way to motivate yourself. Different people have different personalities and preferences. You just have to experiment and find out what gets you into action. You can get out and breathe some fresh air. You can play your favourite music as you do your early morning routine. You can think of a person that inspires you the most or probably a movie you have seen.
· Think less, do more.
Thinking and planning is great... but we should not over-think.
· Before going to bed, think of the great things that happened during the day. Never ponder on bad things as these will only keep you awake the whole night. Good sleep leads to good outlook the following morning. It will also keep you from waking up in a bad mood.
· Stop looking for easy and start doing effective.
· Visualize the result once the job is done. Just imagine the wonderful feeling you will have once your goals are achieved. Push yourself harder and focus on the positive results of what you are trying to reach. Nothing can beat the feeling of pride, satisfaction, and relief

Remember... if nothing changes (attitudes, decisions, behaviours), nothing changes (reality).

The safe, secure & happy childhood: A word to parents

Anuradha Govind
J M International School, Dwarka

A warm welcome to the season of NURSERY ADMISSIONS with a hope that keeping all the dilemmas and confusions at bay, it is a pleasant experience for parents of our 3+ year olds.

While selecting the ‘right’ school for your kid, give a thought to the kind of development that you would like to see in your child. Explore the vision, curriculum, teaching methods & practices of various schools. Go for a thoughtful institution where the learning and growing up becomes an exciting and enriching experience for your little one and she/he develops into a confident and happy individual who can think, question , has opinion of her/his own and also has the courage to share it with others.

In order to conceive the vision for overall development of children, parents too are expected to go hand in hand with their kid’s school, visualizing the learning process with a progressive outlook. All the curricular games and activities relate the abstract concepts to real life. So please contribute promptly towards all such activities without a second thought.

Coming to academic approach, the ‘why’ is even more important than what and how to learn. So please don’t panic over 1 or 2 marks, A or B grades. Enjoy and acknowledge the process of learning. Believe me, particularly in this age group, ‘conceptual clarity’ and ‘developing a thinking mind’ are important, rather than the marks & grades.

Most importantly the school and the parents must work together to ensure a safe, secure & happy school and home - physically, academically, socially & emotionally, for children, where they develop love for learning & spread happiness in their lives and create a better world for everyone.

Why A Boarding School? And How to prepare your child for it?

Dr. Rishi Khurana
Shanti Gyan International Sr. Sec. Boarding School,
Goyla,Nr. Sec-19 Dwarka

There are many reasons for parents and children to choose residential schools such as: -

· Better Education/High Academic Standards
· Better at Meeting Personalized Needs (tutors, sports, extra-curricular)
· Better Preparation for University
· Physically and Emotionally Safe Learning Environments
· More character, morals and values
· A well-rounded education

Normal day schools have often been criticized as elitist, class-conscious in a nominally class-less society, where those who could afford to pay the fees sent their children to meet others of the same class and values and to make contacts to serve them for the rest of their lives. This emphasis is intended to leaven the mixture of students and spread the effects of a day school education throughout the society.

During a period of rapid change in education, some parents are concerned at the values and ethics to which their children are being exposed. By choosing a day school, they may be able to select more directly the qualities they prefer for their children's environment. Discipline and academic achievement are often emphasized in day schools and combined with athletic and artistic endeavours to fulfill a more traditional curriculum. A residential school will also focus on the need for inter-dependence and social skills to allow faculty and students to live together in harmony, acknowledging the needs of ethers in a more or less protected setting.

Residential schools have often been the academic choice for families who are mobile, either because adequate education doesn't exist in their present location, or because educational and psychological continuity that increases in importance as children mature may be compromised if the family re-locates. For some of these young people, the school becomes their most stable physical environment, since if the family moves, the central element of 'home' has changed. Visiting the family in the new environment is important, but some allegiance will have been transferred if adaptation to the school has taken place.

Some of the students at any residential school will be there because of problems, either within their families, with society or in academic subjects. Each school will deal with these issues in its individual way; some schools specialize in helping children with their difficulties, and some rely on a tightly structured environment and low teacher-student ratio to keep problems under control.

In examining a school it is essential to be open in discussing your reasons for looking for a new educational environment, since the right school for the child must rely on a 'good fit' to be successful.
Tips for Preparing Children for the Boarding School

Remember that going to boarding school is a major transition—for the child and the family. Learn all you can about the skills needed to handle other transitions in life successfully and seek to apply them when facing the transition to boarding school.

Be sensitive to the individual needs of your children. Children are not all ready at the same age to face separation from parents. If one of your children seems particularly insecure and fearful of the separation, investigate other options for that child’s education to allow for additional maturity. A year or two delay may prevent many years of difficulty later.

Get as much information as possible about the boarding school before sending your children. Find out about its purpose, philosophy, discipline, rules, the expectations/privileges/restrictions for you as parents. If you don’t understand something, seek clarification from appropriate sources. Prefer schools which are exclusively boarding as there will be no any discrimination among day scholars and boarders.

If at all possible, visit the boarding school and meet the boarding home parents with your children before you have to leave them there. This will give you, as a family, an opportunity to talk specifically about what it might be like for your children to go there, and they will be able to go to a place that is at least somewhat familiar. You as parents will also be able to visualize your children in their setting when they are away from you. All of these things make it easier to maintain a sense of being “connected” even when you are physically separated.

Talk about the boarding school experience well in advance—be realistic about what will be enjoyable and what will probably be difficult. Express your feelings honestly, and encourage your children to do so as well—without trying to talk them out of feeling the way they do or telling them they shouldn’t feel a certain way.

When your children go to boarding school, allow them to take along some reminders of “home” that are meaningful to them—family pictures, favorite toys or books, pictures to hang, a special pillow or blanket.

Provide your children with some tangible reminder of your love to take along to the boarding school. Affirm your love to them and be sure they understand—and feel—that you are not sending them away because they are a bother to you or keep you from doing things that are more important to you than they are.

New Disease - Nipah Virus Encephalitis

Dr KK Aggarwal
Padma Shri Awardee
Vice President CMAAO
President HCFI

The cause of death of two people, ostensibly suffering from fever, in Kozhikode has been confirmed to be due to the Nipah virus (NiV), spread by fruit bats and which caused severe disease in both animals and humans. The virus has been confirmed by the National Institute of Virology, Pune.

Transmission of Nipah virus takes place through direct contact with infected bats or from other NiV-infected people and people have been also cautioned that they should not consume fruits that have fallen to the ground.

Nipah virus caused an outbreak in pigs and humans in Malaysia and Singapore between 1998 and 1999, and has caused recurrent human outbreaks in Bangladesh and West Bengal, India since 2001.

Nipah virus was initially discovered when it caused an outbreak of viral encephalitis among pig farmers in Malaysia. The virus was named after a village in Malaysia, where the infected patient lived. Since then, there have been several outbreaks of acute Nipah encephalitis in various districts in Bangladesh, in the neighboring district of Siliguri in India, and in the Southern Philippines

The natural host is believed to be fruit bats of the Pteropus species, four of which have been demonstrated to have serologic evidence of infection with this virus. The virus has also been isolated from fetal tissue and uterine fluids of these bats

Nipah and Hendra viruses are two related zoonotic pathogens that have emerged in the Asia-Pacific region. Both are RNA viruses that belong to the Paramyxoviridae family.
The viruses jump the species barrier and infect a secondary animal host (eg, pigs or horses), and transmit infections to humans. In addition, the Nipah virus may be able to spread from human to human.

Nipah virus primarily causes an encephalitic syndrome with a high mortality rate. The characteristic MRI abnormalities are multiple, small (less than 5 mm), asymmetric focal lesions in the subcortical and deep white matter without surrounding edema.

The incubation period ranges from 7 to 40 days. The initial presentation is non-specific, characterized by the sudden onset of fever, headache, myalgia, nausea and vomiting. Meningismus is seen in approximately one-third of patients although marked nuchal rigidity and photophobia are uncommon. Patients infected with Hendra virus have presented with fever and influenza like illnesses, or with meningoencephalitis.

The diagnosis of Nipah virus can be established using an enzyme-linked immunoassay (ELISA). Supportive care is the mainstay of treatment and infected patients may require intensive care monitoring.

In the Malaysian outbreak, anti-thrombotic agents, aspirin and pentoxyfylline, were administered in some patients based upon the recognition that arterial thrombosis may play an important role in the CNS disease.

Ribavirin, a nucleoside analogue, was also given empirically as it has a broad spectrum of activity against RNA and DNA viruses. In the Malaysian outbreak, 140 treated patients were compared to 54 control patients who did not receive ribavirin. Fewer treated patients died (32 percent versus 54 percent) . However, treated patients were identified later in the outbreak so it is possible that they were given better general medical care compared to untreated patients seen earlier. Subsequent animal models found that ribavirin, as well as chloroquine, were ineffective.

Pedagogy or the Discipline or the Art or the Science of teaching.

Nita Arora
Head Learner
Sri VIS, Sector-18, Dwarka, New Delhi (India)

In the present times, can we say that the teaching methodologies that worked in the past will still apply or do we have to change the focus of our practice?

In order to answer that, we need to delve in the history of teaching practices. We shall take the example of GURUKUL SYSTEM IN VEDIC PERIOD in India

In Gurukuls, The initial education will be generally given in homes, up to the age of 8 years and later in Ashrams or Gurukuls, followed by education in Centres of higher learning such as Takshila.

Gurukuls were free and were not dependent on parents paying fee but students could offer fields, livestock and/or elements of daily needs to Gurus or even nothing, as per their economic condition. Students would seek alms and offer to the Gurus for running the ashram. In general, the whole society would promote education.

Gurukuls were residential, separate for girls and boys, students of different social classes studied together. Different shastras were taught and students were allowed to specialize in a field of their interest.

The objectives of education were:

1. Development of Self-control
2. Development of character
3. Generation of sociability or social awareness
4. Integral development of personality
5. Propagation of purity
6. Preservation of knowledge and culture

We find that the scholars have found the Gurukul System the best and it did give many scholars of unparalleled learning and repute to India.

In the present times, the pedagogical innovations are needed to shift the focus from what and how to teach to “How to learn”.

We have to empower our students to feel the need for learning and then be guided to learn the art of learning. Create a need and then teach, how to fulfill that need, rather than equating education as filling of an empty vessel.

Students must be encouraged and empowered to seek and create knowledge.

The learning that a teacher has amassed, cannot be transferred in the time spent in schools and colleges, similarly not the entire body of knowledge could find its place in the prescribed text books , hence, we have to make our learners , proficient in how to read and read between the lines.

In the age of technological era, how to search for the information, how to conduct empirical and research studies from upper primary/middle classes onwards.

The teaching focus has to shift to integrated rather than subject-centric, collaborative as well as individualized, hands- on learning rather than theoretical, flip learning from home to school, from learner to class, rather than school/teacher to learner/home.

Education has to be related to real life rather than abstract teaching being applied later in life. The Abstract will lose its relevance for the children, if not related to life.

In the present context, till Secondary stage, there is fixed curriculum in most schools, and only a few schools allow children to choose other subjects.

Even in the subjects made mandatory, most students may not find relevance of the complex concepts/terms they are made to learn; in terms of application in life; now or later. Also, unfortunately most of the teachers are unable to link the relevance themselves, and insist on learning for the sake of examination results or the job market; as the ultimate reward/goal of learning; leaving the learner losing interest. Some students drop out of formal schooling for this very reason as without interest, results also do not materialize.

We have to create a need for the learning and also arouse interest in learning. It can only happen, if there is sustained joy in learning not only for its own sake but the learner experiences a deep love and need for learning. We need excited and joyful teachers, who infect their students with a lot of their own enthusiasm and also share the joy of newer learning themselves constantly. Such a teacher will relate concepts to life, making schooling joyful, igniting, sustaining interest, arousing creativity and empowering the learner, for assuming the ownership of his learning.

It has to move away from exam based system to either fulfilling a career aspirational need or of pure academic interest for seeking and creating knowledge

Many schools have put considerable efforts in developing newer models of learning. Some schools have developed the concept of Learning Minutes, or the time allotted to self- learning time given to each student per subject, during school hours.

Some schools use the phrase ‘Leading me to lead my learning’ for setting and meeting personal learning goals.

Our school has developed the idea of ‘external/play tool of learning strategies’ in which learning continues from playgrounds and external visits to classes.

What is needed is a stronger emphasis on integrated and/or inquiry based learning.

We also need to empower the teachers to allow them to innovate and try newer ideas. Teacher Education and training has received the maximum focus in this training and has generated small pockets of Action Research in each so called progressive school and even traditional school. Teaching as Inquiry should be adopted, if not already done. We may implement it by having a regular time slot for teachers to think together and share their professional inquiries, every week. It may be in curricular or cross -curricular groups.

Sri VIS has the rare distinction of having nine of its teachers acknowledged and awarded for innovative teaching practices in Science and Mathematics by the Directorate of Education in 2017-18, the only private school from the district South West. 4 teachers and the Head teacher were selected by NDTV, India Today and Educomp for innovation at National level in 2016-17 and again in 2017-18. We need to continue to rediscover potential and create centres of excellence and integrate the best practices in the whole school pedagogy, then only we shall do justice to all.

It is the need of the hour to address the malaise the society faces- of nepotism and administrative slumber.

Education must receive its due and should be recognized as the only force for developing and nurturing the human potential. It is high time country sees its population as a resource and provides opportunities to the young generation and adults to contribute responsibly; rising over narrow self-interests and differences.

Raising a happy, healthy child is one of the most challenging task a parent can have - and also one of the most rewarding. There is no well defined definition of raising children, a few suggestions could go a long way in ensuring the standard rule for children. Different children may need different levels of attention, expression of love and toughness.

1. You should not try to consider your child an investment of your future. In fact you should just see how to enjoy, nurture and support him. Let him become what he wants to become. You should not try to mould your child according to your understanding of life.

2. You should not spoil your child with too much of pampering. It is usually the consequence of giving a child things in place of love - things like leniency, lowered expectations or material possessions.

3. You should be involved in your child s life which means you will have to rethink and rearrange your priorities. You will have to be with him mentally as well as physically. Being involved does not mean doing your child s homework.

If you are doing your child s homework or correcting it then you are not letting the teacher know what the child is learning.

3. You should set limits which would help your child develop a sense of self - control and self - direction. You should establish and set rules and it should not vary from day-to-day in an unpredictable manner.

4. The most important disciplinary tool is consistency. You should never hit your child, those who are spanked, hit or slapped are more prone to fighting with other children. Best way to be firm with your child or give him 'time out' which work better and do not involve aggression.

5. The best way to get respect from your child is to treat him respectfully. If you are genuinely interested in giving your child a good upbringing then you should first transform yourself into a peaceful and loving human being.

6. You should model a healthy lifestyle and good habits such as regular exercise and proper nutrition in front of your child.

7. You should support spiritual or religious development and participate in spiritual or religious activities so that your child will also automatically have the same inclination.

8. You should take precautions to protect your child and maintain awareness of the child s activities and friends.

9. You should maintain a healthy relationship with your spouse.

10. Most importantly you should keep a minimal use of mobile phone in front of your child.

These 10 good parenting skills would help parents to see their child blossom.

Be in your child’s life: TODAY

Jaspreet Kaur, Vice Principal -Bal Bhavan International School, Sector 12,Dwarka
Today the Youngsters need to know and understand themselves first, their potential, their feelings and emotions, their position in life and in society and their strengths and weaknesses. They need to have a clear sense of their own identity.

“Parents are a child’s first teachers and role models” They are responsible for shaping up the child’s behavior and implementing positive values in them. Children listen, observe and imitate their parents. So it is important that they should be good role models the kids would want to follow.

All parents want to raise their children in such a way that they grow up to become happy and functional adults. As a parent we try to provide everything to our children. However, along with facilities and luxuries there are many things in life that are very important. Education is very important in one’s life, but to be self-sufficient adult, our child should learn some life skills, which is need of the hour.

The term life skills describe a set of basic skills acquired through learning and/or direct life experience that enable individuals and groups to effectively handle issues and problems commonly encountered in daily life. They include creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, the ability to communicate and collaborate, along with personal and social responsibility that contribute to good citizenship.

Many of us take life skills for granted. But the fact is life skill helps children become independent and live life smoothly. Here are some life skills, that parents can take up to bring up a positive turnover:

· These days there is cutthroat of competition in outside world and we need to prepare our child face it effectively. For this he or she should be able to think critically so that he or she is capable of observing and analysing any kind of situation to come up with smart solutions.

· Let’s make our child understand the importance of being organized and set some rules for them. We might feel tempted to set up a messed room, but resist; let your child take responsibility and be organized.

· Social skill is the basic life skill that should be taught right from the time child is a toddler. Let your child learn how to play well with others because when he will grow up he will be able to handle teamwork successfully and interact with other more efficiently and impressively.

· Respecting elders is something we would want a kid to build as his etiquette. Help him via setting an example.

· Parents should practise what they preach to their children and avoid hypocrisy at all times when it comes to various situations, dealing with other people in the family or relations.

The parents’ role should be to expose children to various situations and people that build their confidence, self-esteem and boost their power to distinguish between the correct and incorrect to build their integrity.

The formal education system, today has also tended to prioritise knowledge at the expense of other aspects of our personalities, believing that an increase in knowledge will automatically lead to positive changes in attitudes and behaviours.

Parenting is nothing short of a challenging experience and it isn’t a smooth road, lot of turbulence on the way. But we will be able to handle everything wonderfully if we just keep calm and deal with our child in the right way. Always be mindful of the fact that being too strict or too easy isn’t going to help. Finding a balance is the best way to handle any situation. Be Communicative. Remember that your child’s good habits always begin at home. A good habit for children helps your child grow up soon and be a wonderful and successful human being. Be a mentor to your child always.

Remember: Children close their ears to advice,
but open their eyes to example.

Union Ministry of Steel waiting for the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) policy on the end of life of commercial vehicles likely to be announced on October 2 this year is all set to set up 20 scrapping centres in various parts of the country to produce steel from the scrap.

“The ministry of steel will introduce a steel scrap policy this year which, in conjunction with the much-awaited vehicle scrappage policy by MoRTH , will lay out the rules and regulations for using scrap from old vehicles to produce steel.” Said Ms Aruna Sharma , Secretary , Union Ministry of steel while speaking at a seminar on ‘Opportunities for Indian Steel Mills in Infrastructure sector’ organised jointly by Ministry of steel along with Steel Guru here today.

“We have been waiting for the transport department to come out with its policy on the end-of-life of commercial vehicles. The steel scrap policy will be based on this . Once this policy is in place, India will start producing steel from scrap. For a steel producer, it doesn’t make a difference whether you make steel from iron ore or scrap. The National Steel Policy’s target of 300 million tonnes (mt) of steel production by 2030-31 includes steel made from both iron ore and scrap.” Ms Sharma said .

“The scrap policy will reduce dependence on imports .Local scrap reduces dependence on imports for secondary steel plants in India. These scrap units will be set up either by the private sector or as public-private partnerships because the business proposition for scrap makes it attractive to the private sector.” Ms Sharma added.

“With India targeting a 300 million tonnes a year steel production capacity by 2030-31, the focus of steel ministry is on domestic consumption and making the sector globally competitive.. Ministry of steel has identified construction and manufacturing sectors like rural development, urban infrastructure, roads and highways, and railways for maximum consumption of steel.” Said Chauhary Birender Singh, Union Minister of steel in his video message to the conference .

"The government has made a budgetary allocation of about Rs. Six lakh crore for infrastructure this year. We have to ensure that the maximum steel produced in the country is used domestically, , The new Steel Policy seeks to increase per capita steel consumption to 160 kg by 2030 from the existing around 64 kg” said Mr Vishnu Deo Sai the Union Minister of state for Steel Minister while inaugurating the conference.

The Minister said since India was one of the fastest growing economies in the world, extensive use of steel in areas like construction, infrastructure, power, aerospace, industrial machinery, and consumer products, is of strategic importance to the country.

The others who spoke during the inauguration ceremony included Mr P K Singh, Chairman , Steel Authority of India Ltd, Mr P Madhusudan, CMD, RINL, Mr Peeyush Gupta , VP steel marketing and sales , TATA steel, Mr Vinay Shroff EVP, Sales and Marketing , JSW Steel and MR Yatinder Pal Singh Suri, MD , Outokumpu India.

Moulding Digital Generation into global leaders with Human Values

Dr. (Mrs) Rajee N Kumar
N.K.Bagrodia Public School, Dwarka

As an educationist, through this eternal journey in pursuit of educational excellence, we encourage the students to bear a great sense of belongingness, responsibility and compassion for the fellow human beings. We believe that, children are born with innate talents and potential, which just needs to be chiseled with the investment of motivation and guidance to bring their shimmering qualities to the fore.

With advancement in science every year, new technology renders the latest gadgets obsolete. Nothing is permanent and change is the reality of life. Keeping this in perspective, even the teachers who do not change with time could become obsolete, as the gadgets of bygone years. To keep ourselves abreast with the changing pace of time, we, the educationists need to update ourselves and be in sync with the thoughts and ideology of the new generation, “Learning is a journey from the womb to the tomb". Learning never stops and teachers should concentrate on psychoanalytical techniques to impart proper knowledge flow without encouraging rote learning to boost students’ morale and intelligent quotient. For teachers the three R’s- Respect, Rapport and Recognition are the cardinal principles of teaching the adolescents. Always leave a mark in their lives by being an approachable teacher and a mentor whom they will remember fondly throughout their life.

I also urge the parents to interact with their children with love, not with anger and use total positive thoughts instead of negative emotions. It is always seen that, whenever, children commit mistakes we, as adults, let off steam and the children only develop skills to cope with parental pressure and teachers’ anger, by hiding facts and in the process, everyone loses sight of the main issue. So remember, children will listen and learn only if you deal with them lovingly and rationally. Parents must listen carefully to their wards and give quality time and have patience to remove the behavioral viruses entering their homes. This can be done, by having family lunches or dinners together with healthy discussions without the television and internet intruding your conversation.

21st century skills are the skills today’s children need to thrive in school, college and beyond. The 3R’s- learning basic Reading, Writing and Arithmetic is still a must. But this is not enough, as our children need additional cognitive skills to withstand today’s competitive world. They need to synthesize information to communicate effectively and to collaborate in the process of development. The world has transformed into a knowledge economy. Apparently, the present generation, needs to be differently motivated as they are brought up on internet. To this purpose, employment of technological advancement is quintessential!

We venture far beyond narrow thresholds; in a global community consequently, comprehension of global issues besides the importance of health and wellbeing is indispensible. Hence, nurturing 21st century skills such as adaptability, leadership, collaboration, flexibility and self-direction, we ensure global survivability. As a 21st century teacher, one needs to pull oneself to be a role model for the students, advocating positivity to inculcate self belief. A modern day teacher can make a difference in the lives of children playing multifarious roles nurturing young minds to be an agent of change.

Let us enlighten ourselves with the vibrant colours of education so that we bring up the digital generation who will develop into global leaders with human values.
