The Giraffe Heroes India Program

A Giraffe Hero is a person who sticks his or her neck out on sustainable basis, for public good, at huge personal risk. Giraffe Heroes India Program is an off-shoot of non-profit Giraffe Heroes Project which was started in USA in 1984, by Ann Medlock. Trekking & Adventure sports keeps you physically & mentally fit.

Recently, I have visited the most beautiful part of Himachal Pradesh i.e. Chamba District. Chamba valley is known for its scenic attractions, sparkling streams, lakes, meadows and luch deodar forests. Crowned with high mountain ranges, Its has rich in wildlife and animals like the elusive snow leopard, ibex, brown bear, and musk deer. Dalhousie is also very famous hill station of Chamba district.

It spread out over five hills like Kathlog, Potreys, Tehra, Bakrota & Balun. Its named after the 19th century British Governor General Lord Dalhousie. The town’s varying altitude Shades it with a variety of vegetation that includes stately grooves of pines, deodars, oaks and flowering rhododendrons. According to Father Pervez Egbert (Who is presently look after the church) St.John’s Church at Gandhi Chowk is the oldest church in Dalhousie established in 1863. Gandhi Chowk & Subhash Chowk are destination for the local transportation. Karenalu is the major & natural water source for entire Dalhousie & surrounding areas. Tourist Information Officer Mr. Surjeet Singh Thakur (who is with Himachal Tourism for the last 22 years) presently located at Dalhousie office says that May & June are best month but tourist come regularly and in December Tourist love to see the snowfall in the valley. Hotel Mani Mahesh & Geetanjli Hotel are quite famous in the town. Mr. Anil Mehta-Secretary of Dalhousie Club says that tourist love to visit this hill station throughout the year.

Dalhousie Public School, Sacred heart School, Guru Nanak public School & Hill Top School are quite famous schools of Dalhousie where local and other states children study.

The following are the major attractive spots of Dalhousie for the tourists:
Panjpulla-It is nearly 2 KM away from the town where a statue of freedom fighter/social activist Sardar Ajit Singh (Real uncle of Shaheed Bhagat Singh) is located. And a water fall & boating are the major attraction for the tourist.

Kalatop-It is 2440 meter above the sea level & around 8 KM away from the town and even has a good opportunity for the trekker to walk through the dense forest to reach Kalatope. According to Mr.Man Singh (who is caretaker of the Tourist Rest House at Kalatope) we have a provision for the stay here but it needs special permission from Chamba office to avail the facility. I also enjoyed the trek to Kalatope along with A grade officers of Education Department of Haryana Government.

Rock Garden-Himachal Tourism tried to develop a picnic spot here but presently its not properly maintained and the spot is being used as vehicle parking.

Khajjiar-It is really the most beautiful place of entire Himachal Pradesh. Its known as Mini Switzerland. It is 1960 meter above the sea level and only 22 KM away from Dalhousie by road.

A picturesque spot with an emerald saucer shaped meadow amidst a dense forest which even has a lake with floating island at its center & a golf course. According to Kishan Chand Rana Operator of Zorbing Rolling ball “ we charge Rs.300 for two person for single ride in the ball in the open ground surrounded by the beautiful trees. Horse riding is quite popular among the tourists in Khajjiar. It has almost 3KM radius around the spot.

How to reach Dalhousie
It is 555 KM away from Delhi by road. Pathankot is the Nearest Railway Station & Dalhousie is 85KM away by road.

I like to travel extensively whenever I found the opportunity, I am passionate about travelling, meeting Local people, culture and above all natural beauty of different parts of India. I personally several states of India yet I want to explore It meaningfully, because we Indian are lucky to have high mountains, deserts, beaches, lakes, rivers, Water falls, rich culture, historical/religious places.
I am proud of my great nation.

Well Beginning
When I was only years old, I went to Vaishno Devi along with my mom, daddy and two brothers. As per my knowledge that the first trek of my life from Katra to Main Temple of Goddess Vishno Devi.At that time there were no lights and steps (proper path) but only rough trek. Every body was totally depended upon mules & horses to reach the destination but I trekked that distance on my own feet. After that During school days I was actively played Cricket but trekking was my passion. I even joined many camps with Scouts & Guides in the hills and even during college days trekked several places of Himalayan regions.

I got married
In 1993 and since 1994, I again trekked several destination even along with my wife and two kids during summers. Even on 30th May,2002 my Son created a unique record while climbing Gaumukh (12,770 ft. high above the sea level) from Gangotri. It was 36 KM trek Apart from this unique record I always fond of trekking in the interior of entire Himalayan regions.
 With 1st Mount Everester
Ms. Bachendri Pal Singh

Once I even trekked with 1st Mount Everester Ms. Bachendri Pal Singh from Naugaon to Dodital, Uttarkashi, Uttarkhand I have been in touch with three times climber of Mt. Everest, Mr. Rajiv Sharma-Senior Instructor (Manali Mountaineering Institute) & Mt. Everester. I have very close friendship with Col. Ravinder Nath-(Former Director Indian Mountaineering Institute) & Col. Ashok Abbey(Former Principal of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi, Uttarkhand). Col. Ashok even invited me to cover Asia Cup Of Wall Climbing competition in which more than 12 countries participated and it was a wonderful event particularly for the Mountain lovers.

Engagement with Mountaineering Clubs
I have been voluntarily associated with Indian Mountaineering Foundation(International body of Mountaineers), Climber & Explorer Club, Mystically Journey, Kailash Mansarover Sewa Samiti(R) National Adventure Sports Academy(NASA).

What to carry while going for a trekking
Tshirt, Trek suit, lower, Umbrella, Torch, Mat, Water Bottle, Goggle, Cap, Camera, Mobile and of course some packed edibles also. Never carry heavy luggage otherwise you will not enjoy the trip.

Explore the destination
Before going to any trekking you should explore the destination and find the climatic condition of that particulars spot. Try to collect useful information from particular Tourism Department and even local people.

Trekking hour
When you are on a trekking you should preferably trek early in the morning but reach the desired camp before sunset. Never move fast or run to reach speedly because it makes you tired and unable to travel the long distance comfortably. As far as the distance of a day is concerned, you can trek 8-10 KM a day , even a normal trekker can do it easily.

Local People
Always try to mix up yourself with the local people by way of passing smile or even you can gather local information with them. Because they are the most Useful Source of information of that particular area. Be curious, humble & friendly with them they will provide you each & every possible information/help.

Wild Life
Monkey, deer, snake, dogs, bears, langoors, vultures, eagle are quite common with whom you may face them suddenly. So, never hurt or challenge them because they never attack you so be carefully with them but never try to beat or attack them otherwise they can harm you. Moreover, you should never move alone during trekking always move in the group from safety point of view.

Advantages of Trekking & Adventure Sports:
I think trekking & Adventure sports should be made compulsory in school and college curriculum. Because weekly trekking trip once a year makes the Students active, stout & sound health. It also brings self confidence, team building spirit, increase will power and even physical strength in the body.

GET A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

Sleep is a form of rest – so say the science books. It is very correct that after a hard day’s work, one must get well deserved sleep. But how many of us can claim to get good quality sleep?

Whether the person is a student, or a worker or an IT professional, or an engineer or doctor or teacher or a nurse or a policeman, he goes through a number of tensions in his day-to-day life. For students it is the burden of studies. For a policeman it is the pressure of the work and the cases he has to handle, with his boss demanding results and the public and human rights activists ready to pounce on him for any mistake on his part. For a doctor, he has to manage patients with great care. He cannot afford to make a mistake lest a life is lost. Also, the ever conscious people are ready to slap cases on the doctor for any negligence on his part. An IT professional is under pressure from the company to perform and achieve [sometimes unrealistic] targets, with the fear of retrenchment looming large especially in these days of global recession. A call center employee has to work at odd hours, going against nature.

All these people go through a lot of physical and /or mental strain during their working hours. They take their worries home. Many executives working from their lap tops continue to work during their journey back home and also at home.

Further the advent of TV and the plethora of sports programs are huge temptations to watch cricket, football, tennis and other popular sports late into the night. The effect of this or working while watching TV is ‘going to sleep late’. As the time for going to work cannot be compromised on, it means less sleep than usual for working professionals.

The women folk, especially the working women/working mothers are doubly stressed, as they have to perform at work and also do their chores at home including cooking, taking care of the children, minding their homework, and preparing for the next day’s routine. This again leads to less sleeping hours for the women folk.

Apart from the shortfall in the quantity of sleep, people also suffer from a good quality of sleep. The amount of sleep a person requires cannot be exactly quantified as it varies from person to person. Various factors come into play like the age, the type of work [physical or mental] and the pressures of work.

It is easy to state that one should not carry the troubles home, but they linger in one’s mind throughout one’s waking hours and also disturb the sleep pattern. This should trigger an alert in the person’s mind. It is only when matters worsen and problems become neck deep that he/she takes actions in distress. A visit to a doctor becomes imperative. The doctor recommends that the patient must sleep at least 7 to 8 hours every night. But working professionals hardly get 5 hours of sleep; that too disturbed sleep. They wake up reluctantly on a Monday morning and resume their routines. They should stop and think as to why they are running around working so much. The obvious reason is to secure a good present and future for themselves and their children.

Lack of sleep - qualitative and quantitative - is one of the major reasons for stress in individuals. The basic attitude towards life is a major cause of lack of sleep. Some persons who have achieved real greatness state that if a person’s conscience is clear and he/she has not caused harm to any person knowingly or otherwise, then that person will have no problems in getting good quality sleep. Although this is very obvious, it is only accepted by most of the people in principle only. In reality, they are running after money, success and fame. By running in the rat race, they become ruthless. This leads to tension resulting in their foregoing their daily quota of sleep. This slowly has an effect on their health and they get stressed out. A judicious balance in the working hours and the sleep hours is also essential to avoid stress.

Also, the worry in the people’s minds on many issues puts off sleep by an hour or two. This worry has to be addressed by the person by adopting a positive outlook toward life. He/she should analyze the situation and the options before him/her in an objective manner. If the analysis becomes subjective due to the biased opinions of the sufferer, he/she should confide in someone close to him/her, so that this person can make an objective evaluation and suggest a solution. Thus, removing this worry from the person’s mind will ensure peace of mind and hence good quality of sleep.

Remedial measures for a good night’s sleep:

* Yoga and meditation offer rest to the body and the mind, resulting in peace and calm.
* Regular walk and exercise lead to suppleness of the body which also results in calm.
* Cultivating good and healthy friendship is one sure way of calming the agitated mind.
* Cultivating hobbies leads to pleasure and relaxation from the normal rat race routine.
* Forgive-and-forget attitude should be adopted for the mind to always remain calm.
Say a small prayer thanking God for all the blessings (also for those in disguise) and look forward to a better day the next morning.

Importance of Motivation to lead a successful life

Geeta

Motivation is the characteristic that helps you achieve your goal. It is the drive that pushes you to work hard and reach whatever it is that you are after. It is the energy that gives you the strength to get up and keep going - even when things are not going your way.

Motivation can be intrinsic or extrinsic (internal and external) - With extrinsic motivation, you are motivated by rewards from an external source - you will be inspired by the recognition that you will get from external sources. Intrinsic motivation is something internal - you are motivated to reach your goal for your own internal benefits - Example - reading a book so that you can get the grade you are after versus reading a book so that you can learn something.

Intrinsic motivation is better than extrinsic motivation. But for many finding intrinsic motivation is not easy - it has to come from inside out. But once you get it, intrinsic motivation is much more powerful than the extrinsic.

Positive Motivation is where the focus is on what you want to achieve. You know where you're going. It is the result of positive thinking and will cause a sustained progress towards your goal. Holding the image of your goal in your thoughts will attract the inspiration needed to get you there. Its effect is strong and consistent and the results achieved are prolonged and steady.

Negative Motivation can best be described as wanting to get away from an existing condition. A good example is someone that has grown up in poverty and will do anything to not fall into it again. This is a strong motivation and can be an effective "Kick Start" but the results it achieves are markedly different from those of Positive Motivation. The effect can often be likened to a roller coaster ride. A classic example is the countless millionaires who make their fortunes and lose them time and time again. This type of motivation lacks the sustained results that come from Positive Motivation.

Self-motivation is a continuing process and the only way we become better and stronger is to create a few mistakes along the way and also face a few setbacks. In essence, you must take a specific sum of risk because it is the fantastic occasions and the bad that forces us to a better person.

The thing with us Personal Development types is, we're always talking about creating our best life.
We know that success is represented by different things for different people, but society teaches us that success is typically about money, position, attractiveness, power and influence There is are actually three effective ways on how you can easily motivate yourself and get things done easily.

First thing to remember, it is important to stay focused. Keep focused not on your things that you are facing with, but focus on the reward of that task once it has already been completed. Now, wouldn't that be much better if we know there is something waiting for us after completing that task? That is a pretty good motivation to think of. Keep your attention on your work and on your work alone - through this it will further help you to motivate yourself in completing the work rather than saving it for later.

Secondly, make sure that it is clear to you why you wanted to finish those things done. Preserve a clear vision of what you want. Visualize your wanted output and keep that in mind not until you are not yet done with the work. It is important that you are clear with the reason and you will simply get the motivation that you need.

And lastly, establish a daily habit in completing the things that needs to be done. Do the important tasks during a particular time every day. Discipline yourself to follow to your own schedule, as motivation itself would always come with self-discipline below are great self motivation tips that are sure to help you become more active and productive every day.

Tips for Motivation
· Know what you want to do and what you want to achieve, be it a long-term or a short-term goal. Make sure they are achievable. Write them down and post it on your wall where you can see it every morning. Make it a habit to read them out loud. Visualize them and share them with your friends.
· Get yourself an accountability partner / coach.
· Share your dreams, plans and goals with your coach, create a realistic action plan and then get busy.
· Create a to-do list and do the stuff you've been avoiding, first.
· Consciously avoid making excuses.
When you feel an excuse climbing up onto your tongue... give yourself an uppercut.
· Have something to look forward to when you wake up each morning. Think of the happy and good things that are going to happen on that day. Doing this will surely set your mood and mindset for the rest of the day.
· Discover the best way to motivate yourself. Different people have different personalities and preferences. You just have to experiment and find out what gets you into action. You can get out and breathe some fresh air. You can play your favourite music as you do your early morning routine. You can think of a person that inspires you the most or probably a movie you have seen.
· Think less, do more.
Thinking and planning is great... but we should not over-think.
· Before going to bed, think of the great things that happened during the day. Never ponder on bad things as these will only keep you awake the whole night. Good sleep leads to good outlook the following morning. It will also keep you from waking up in a bad mood.
· Stop looking for easy and start doing effective.
· Visualize the result once the job is done. Just imagine the wonderful feeling you will have once your goals are achieved. Push yourself harder and focus on the positive results of what you are trying to reach. Nothing can beat the feeling of pride, satisfaction, and relief

Remember... if nothing changes (attitudes, decisions, behaviours), nothing changes (reality).
