Musical Tribute to playback singer Asha Bhosle for completing 72 years of singing by new playback singer Anuja Sinha


The first Indian silent movie “Raja Harishchandra” produced and directed by Dada Sahib Phalke was released at Coronation Cinema, Girgaum, Bombay.on May 3, 1913, and the film industry has just completed 102 years of Indian Cinema. The first talkie movie “Aalam Aara” was released on March 14, 1931 at Majestic Cinema, Girgaum, Bombay in which Wazir Mohammad Khan rendered the first film song of Indian Film Industry “de de khuda ke naam pe”. While the film industry has now entered into its 84th year of singing, playback singer Asha Bhosle stands out as the only singer who has completed 72 years of her singing career and continues to sing. Born on Sept 8, 1933 when the era of singing was just two years old, Asha Bhosle had started singing in 1943 at the age of 10. The 82 years old Asha Bhosle not only holds the record of longest innings as a singer but also is entered into “Guiness Book of Records” for having sung more than 11,000 songs in 20 Indian Languages, the highest in the world.

To celebrate this unique occasion, three cultural societies of Delhi, namely DMS Arohi, Sakha and PECOBA organized a musical program of Asha Bhosle’s Evergreen film songs sung by her ardent fan Anuja Sinha on 4th May at Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi. Anuja Sinha who began her stage singing career in a program of cultural society SAKHA in 1990 has just made a debut as a playback singer in hindi feature film “ Just Thirty Minutes” produced directed by Yesudas BC.

On this occasion Sakha Awards were bestowed by the Chief Guest Ambassador Deepak Vohra, (Special Adviser to the Prime Minister- Lesotho and Guineau-Bissau) on playback singer Anuja Sinha, Flute player and IPS Officer Dr Muktesh Chander, veteran art and culture promoters Pran Nevile and Sanjay Malik, and social worker-banker TP Singh. Also Pecoba Awards to outstanding engineers of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (Renamed as PEC University of Technology) were bestowed by Prof Dr Manoj Arora, Director PEC on JR Mahajan,( President, Indian Cluster of Mechatronics, Mumbai), Mohit Shrivastava (CEO, Embedded Control Systems, Chandigarh) and PradeepWig (CEO, Kwality Group, New Delhi). Prof Manoj Arora also released website of PECOBA, namely www.pecoba.in. PECOBA is an alumni association of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh and covers about 10,000 alumni all over world.

Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Ambassador Deepak Vohra narrated his personal interactions with Asha Bhosle and said that she is a unique singer who can switch over from a bhajan or a melancholy song to a rock song instantly. The presiding officer, Prof Manoj Arora said that PEC was formed in 1921 in Lahore and belongs to the time period in between the era of silent movies and talkie movies. President of DMS Aarohi Mr Pankaj Mathur who is himself a singer said that he will try to invite Asha Bhosle in his next program

The singers of evening included Anuja Sinha, Pankaj Mathur, Rakesh Kala, Pratibha Asthana, Chandni, Mumtaz, Kapil Tiwari and Mahender Sharma. The program which was planned and produced by Pankaj Mathur was compered and scripted by Satpal Narang with orchestration by Doremi under leadership of Satish Popli
