Swachh Bharat: GiveModi100Hours.In launched by individuals to sustain cleanliness drive

Inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and enthused by the spirit of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, a group of professional individuals have launched a campaign to encourage people to commit two hours a week and 100 hours a year to the cause of cleanliness. A portal www.GiveModi100Hours.In was launched on Gandhi Jayanti coinciding with the launch of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan of the Government of India.

Soon after Prime Minister gave the call, the Group unveiled the website and social media platforms.
“We understand large number of people will be driven by the call by Prime Minister and will follow Gandhian principle of making a clean environment. The initial enthusiasm may not sustain for long and that is why we consider it important to have a platform which shall continue to motivate people to contribute to this critical cause for the nation,” said Atul Kumar, of GM100H group.

The website encourages people to sign a Clean India Pledge and become a GM1000H Volunteer. “In the second phase of the campaign, once the awareness is created and we have a pool of volunteers, we shall aim to collaborate with the civic authorities. Volunteers will align with civic agencies and ensure both awareness and action is sustained,” added Kumar.

“We are happy at the initial response. Chairman of South Delhi Municipal Corporation Shailender Singh Monty has offered his help to us. We have also informed of this initiative to many officers of civic authorities and they have all shown inclination to support us,” said Debarati Das, another member of the Group.

One of the key components of this campaign is social media and the Group has elaborate plans to use these tools. “We have established presence on Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube and Blog and have a strategy in place to engage people. PM’s call for use of social media in this campaign bolsters our confidence,” said Palakshi Goswami of GM100H Group.
