Suspecting stroke and heart attack risk without tests

Carotid bruit, an unusual, harsh sound a doctor can hear when passing a stethoscope over the main artery to the brain could indicate an increased risk of heart attack and death from heart disease and stroke, said Padma Shri, Dr. B C Roy National Awardee & DST National Science Communication Awardee, Dr. K K Aggarwal, President Heart Care Foundation of India and Sr National Vice President Indian Medical Association.

The sound is caused by turbulent blood flow due to buildup of fatty deposits in one of the two arteries that carry blood to the front and middle part of the brain. It is usually regarded as a possible indicator of increased risk of stroke.

An analysis of 22 studies involving more than 17,000 patients and published in The Lancet found that people with carotid bruits were more than twice as likely to have heart attacks or to die of cardiovascular disease.

However patients who do not have carotid bruit may have other evidence of cardiovascular disease.

Physicians should routinely listen for possible carotid bruits when doing a physical examination of people who are middle–aged or older.

Studies have shown that there is a link between the risk of stroke and of coronary heart disease.

Manipuri lad Udanta Singh was the main attraction of the afternoon as the 18-year-old striker pumped in all the four goals and was the sole threat throughout the 90 minutes in the game. In the process, Udanta notched up nine goals from the five games in the Final Round of the Competition, and rightfully made his mark in it.

East Bengal striker Jiten Murmu is second in the list of the top scorers with seven goals from five games.

Shakti Chauhan, the Head Coach of the Tata Academy Colts, was ecstatic following the win, and he has saluted his team and the entire coaching staff for the victory in the tournament.

“It was a complete team effort. That is just it! Everybody worked together, the players, as well as the entire Coaching Staff – our Goalkeeper Coach Gumpe Rime, myself, the assistant Coaches, all the backroom staff, just everyone” Chauhan said. “As for now, we are heading for a party to celebrate the success of Team Effort!”

Tata Football Academy finished their campaign in the tournament with 13 points from five games – and also remained unbeaten. Kolkata outfit East Bengal finished runners-up here as well, as they notched up 10 points from the five games. Sesa Football came third with nine points.

The AIFF Academy, Navi Mumbai, had a bitter luck, as they lost thrice in the Final Round, to finish second last in the competition, ahead of Hindustan FC, and below Shillong Lajong FC.

The Metaphysics of Thought Waves

Geeta

Thought is a vital dynamic power existing in the universe. Thought passes from one man to another. It influences people. A man of powerful thought can influence people of weak thought.

Wave nature of the thoughts

Thought-vibrations, like vibrations of light or sound in the physical world, radiate out in all directions. They become less power full as they move further away from their source. This radiating vibration conveys the character of thoughts and easily adaptable.

We can know about a physical body through the thoughts only. Speech and action follow the thoughts. Strong speech can change the thinking of a man. For example, the notorious dacoit Valmiki was changed to a noble and great poet through the strong speech given by the sage Narad.

Thoughts obey the scientific laws. To understand it we need only to extend scientific laws to certain extent sticking to logical thinking.

Now we can think of the invisible atoms and particles that are parts of our physical world. For the existence of such particles we have to rely upon the theories and apparatus used in the experiment. In fact we can only observe its effect on some photographic plates.

Weight, size and shape of the thought waves

Let us take two qualities on this planet. The masses of an Electron and the Earth are of the order of 10power [-30] Kg and 10power [24] Kg respectively. So we are sure that nothing exists on the earth which has mass greater than 10power [24] Kg, but we can't deny the existence of things having masses less than 10power [-30] Kg.

We are able to measure such small things having masses only due to the new development in science and technology.

Now a day's technologies are changing at such a pace that in a decade we may be able to measure masses of the order of 10power[-50]Kg.

We can imagine thoughts having mass less than the mass of an electron. We also know that smaller things can easily pass through the physical objects. So thoughts can penetrate any material.

Frequencies and wavelengths of the thought waves

Thoughts are the vibrations produced by the mind. They must be characterised by certain frequency and hence wavelength, in the electromagnetic spectrum at the one end, cosmic rays have wavelength in order of 10 power[-20]Cm, while at the other end Radio waves have wave length in order of 10 power[4]Cm.

The corresponding frequency for radio waves is in order of 10power [21] Hz. In the light of this information we have to assign a place to the thought waves in the spectrum.

Also we know that energy of a wave is given by E=hv, where h is a constant and v is the frequency of the wave. So higher the frequency, higher will be the energy of the wave.

As thought waves posses very high energy hence lower wavelength. So the thought waves can be assigned a wave length much less than 10power [-12] Cm and frequency much greater than 10power [21] Hz.

Though waves excels Light Waves in speed

Our senses have limitations. But we are gifted with thought waves that can cross any limit.
For any light wave there is one particular source and light has the limitation of a fixed frequency and wavelength according to the source. This is not so with thought.

The source of the waves is mind which can be made to vary at will. So from one mind we can have thoughts waves having different frequencies and wavelengths that can traverse through whole of the electromagnetic spectrum.

Kangana Ranaut and Miss India UK Deana Uppal get fantastic reviews for Revolver Rani

Nilofer Ansari

The Action Hero is an iconic fixture of Hindi cinema, so much so that even a partial roll call of actors who have made their bones in such roles could outlast a montage of every movie scene. But while you can’t throw a curiously ineffective frag grenade or unleash a burst of machine gun fire without nearly hitting an actor who has done a stint or two in the Action Hero role but now the female Action Hero or first woman 'hero' as it can be said is “Kangana Ranaut as Revolver Rani” is in the town and had made crazy about her conical bras, wild, curly hair and proudly sports a sun-kissed, tanned look. With a revolver as her weapon of choice, she sports army jackets, salwar and combat boots. She's loud, crass and violent. Set in the badlands of interior Madhya Pradesh, Sai Kabir’s directorial debut follows Alka Singh (Kangana Ranaut), a feared dacoit, as she navigates the murky world of politics and the murkier world of love. Revolver Rani Starring Debut actress Miss India UK Deana Uppal is all new for Bollywood but the bold and beautiful actress has proved that new comers can also beat the experienced ones. The actress has won accolades from all over for her debut movie. She touched heart with her simple yet powerful performance.

Revolver Rani is a rom com which goes into the deadly world of goons, where guns speak in volume. The film flits from the personal to the political, the emotional to the egregious, and the absurd to the deadly serious. For the most part, Revolver Rani hits the bull’s eye. Movie critic of HelloMumbai said, “The characterisation of the characters in the land of dead is mostly humourous. Alka loves ‘phasion’ and so she loves designer metallic bra from Italy which only she could dare to don. She even is differently wild when wants to play with her ‘toy boy’ Rohan. Such is the psychology of Alka who is least bothered about what people say about her. Deana Uppal had done a brilliant job in the movie.”

According to Dubaitoday, “After watching it you realize that you are watching a desi version of Kill Bill in Revolver Rani. It’s got Quentin Tarantino written all over each and every sequence, the director having broken the film down into just that — a series of well-orchestrated sequences. And in tune with director Sai Kabir's aesthetic inspiration, Revolver Rani exudes Tarantino style pulpy kitsch, much to the amusement of an unsuspecting Indian audience. Deana Uppal is pretty, and has a large and expressive pair of eyes and got audience glued on her others were not able to make their impact.”

BombaySamachar said, “Revolver Rani is a commendably tantalizing attempt for Bollywood. Kangana’s calling it shots (quite literally) paired with her wicked conniving smile is tempting. The narrative in its illustrious moments lures us into its absorbing premises before turning languid. Deana Uppal looks beautiful and acts confidently. Though the product was made with a more competent vision in mind, the execution wasn’t tempered correctly which makes the film fall a few notches. For the mettlesome imagination, Revolver Rani makes for a gripping watch.”

‘HONOUR FOR INDIA TO HOST CONFERENCE’

AIFF Media Team

The Launching Ceremony of the 5th AFC Football Medical Conference took place in New Delhi on Saturday (April 26). All India Football Federation Senior Vice-President Mr. Subrata Dutta and Dato Gurcharan Singh, Chairman, AFC Medical Committee, lit the lamp to set the ball rolling.

Besides, Dr. Shaji Prabhakaran, FIFA Regional Development Officer for South and Central Asia; Mr. Jiji Thomson, Director General, Sports Authority of India (SAI); Dr. PSM Chandran, Organising Secretary, AFC Medical Conference, 2015; and a host of other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

The Launching Ceremony took place almost a year before the Conference, the first-of-its-kind in India which would be held from April 2 to April 4, 2015 in the Capital. The Conference would be attended by around 800-1,000 delegates from across the World.

India would be the fourth Country to host the prestigious event with Malaysia (2000 & 2011), Japan (1995) and Oman (2005) having earlier hosted it.

Singh said it was “gratifying” to see Asian Football progressing in the field of Medical Science and that “Indian Football is not far behind.”

launch of the 5th AFC Medical Conference

“The Medical Conference is a flagship event for AFC in the field of sports science and medicine and I firmly believe that India with its Development Programme, and the rate at which it is growing, is the right place to host it.” He also underlined the fact that with the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in India in 2017, “pre-Competition Medical Assessment is very much required with the latest technologies and practices.”

Dutta mentioned it’s an “honour for India to host the biggest Sports Medicine Conference of Asia.” “It is indeed vibrant times for Indian Football. With the U-17 FIFA World Cup set to take place in three years time, the first-of-its kind AFC Medical Conference in India could not have come at a better time.” “Success comes when right action is taken at the right time,” he further stated.

“We have the ISL which will kick-off in September. Medical Science covers talent scouting by genetic application, prevention of injury, recovery from stress, doping control and also performance enhancement, all of which are vital aspects of the game.”

FIFA Development Officer Dr. Prabhakaran also advocated medical assistance for all Airtel I-League Clubs, State Associations, and all stakeholders. “FIFA always supports the use of modern medical technology,” he informed.

“All stake holders involved with Football need to spread the message across the length and breadth of the Country.” Singh also stressed on advanced medical care backed with proper infrastructure. “With Players playing around 50-60 matches a year advanced medical care with proper infrastructure is very much needed.”

He added: “You can have the best Doctors with you but without proper infrastructure and process, you cannot proceed. FIFA ensures pre-Competition Medical Assessment is absolutely necessary.”

Along with that, AED’s should be available at all times and upon a Cardiac Arrest on the pitch, its mandatory the AEDs reach within three minutes. We have to keep in mind, with every minute the chances of survival goes down.”

“The AFC has plans to take the 5th Medical Conference to a greater level. It is not only about the name change which has been kept in tune with FIFA but subjects like Team physiotherapist Workshop, sports physiotherapists workshop, anti-doping workshop would also be conducted with the help of New Delhi Anti Doping Laboratory.” Dutta also stressed on the importance of Indian Clubs and their administrators understanding the importance of Medical Science in the modern day game.

“There is immense scope of improvement in this area. I-League clubs should include sports science, for prevention of injury, recovery, which the Clubs have been neglecting, with the exceptions of Bengaluru FC and Pune FC.”

Waxing lyrical on just-crowned Airtel I-League Champions Bengaluru FC and their squad being the fittest, Dutta said: “Bengaluru FC’s win in the I-League was victory for professionalism over traditionalism.

“They have the best Medical Team which travels with the squad. They have tied up with H.E.A.L which provides them best injury management facilities. Three physiotherapists, one conditioning Coach, and a dietician always travel with them. fewer injuries and a fit squad has been the key to their success, not big names.”

Teaching - a journey of innovation workshop organized at R.D.Rajpal School

On 19th April, 2014 the teaching faculty of R.D.Rajpal School under the guidance of Mrs. Sonia Rehlia, resource person and an eminent author for pre-primary and primary students put forth an amazing workshop by channelizing the creative thoughts of teachers in a positive way. It was a three hour session of fun and laughter when the teachers indulged in activities. In this ever challenging world of education the right blend of learning, exposure & research are a must for the overall growth of an individual. Education has gone through a major metamorphosis and Mrs. Sonia Rehlia insisted that we as teachers can be a real catalyst in the teaching-learning scenario.

The three hour session was immensely motivational and a wonderful beginning for the new academic session. It really did charge up the teachers to adapt methods in bringing out the best in each and every child. She encouraged the teachers to analyze the role of school in nurturing the tender souls by adopting an inclusive curriculum, giving holistic inputs and formulating a well-rounded assessment and evaluation strategy. She emphasized on the educator’s role in creating and nurturing healthy communication. The curriculum should give equal impetus to all the four communication skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. This was indeed a positive approach in order to turn out confident and articulate adults of tomorrow who can achieve the magnificent goals that ‘literacy’ intended for both the individual as well as the society. Workshops of this manner leave an impact on the educators who play a vital role in the metamorphosis of the teaching-learning phenomena.

Surrender in the Integral Yoga - A Compilation by Jamshed Mavalwalla

The Mother once said, “It is not by books that Sri Aurobindo ought to be studied but by subjects — what he has said on the Divine, on Unity, on religion, on evolution, on education, on self-perfection, on supermind, etc., etc.”

The present compilation in ePDF format aims to bring together all that Sri Aurobindo and the Mother have written on ‘Surrender’. It is meant for those who wish to understand the concept of Surrender in the Integral Yoga; it also serves as an invaluable guide to seekers who wish to practice it. The quotations have been divided into 20 captioned sections and further subsections for the ease of comprehension of the reader, all conveniently linked from the Contents section for easy navigation.

While mentioning about the importance of personal effort in Integral Yoga, Sri Aurobindo says that “the personal effort required is a triple labour of aspiration, rejection and surrender.” We hope to follow up this book with comprehensive compilations on ‘Aspiration’ and ‘Rejection’ as practiced in the Integral Yoga.

CRPF Officials Dead in Road Accident in Dwarka; Police Department Must Take Corrective Measures

You must be aware of the serious accident that took place yesterday in Dwarka near Sector 16B Intersection. 3 Officials of CRPF died in the accident where a collision took place between the CRPF Bus and a Truck.

Accidents at this intersection is nothing new. People in the vicinity can tell how frequently accidents take place here and the police records also must be having it. Most of the accidents are minor but vehicles do get damaged and there is a continuous risk to life due to such frequent accidents.

I don't want to put the entire blame on the Police Department but yes, Delhi Police and Delhi Traffic Police both are guilty of negligence as far as this particular place is concerned. I have a few reasons to say so.

1. Traffic Signal here doesn't work most of the times. Even if it does, its malfunctioning. Even today morning I visited the place and found many of the lights in the signal were not working. Photograph is being attached.

2. Since IP University is very near, hundreds of students pass from this intersection everyday. Most of them dangerously take a turn into the service lane or simply drive on the wrong side. Not even a single policeman is seen around to stop them.

3. Auto-rickshaws, E-Rickshaws, etc are always found driving on the wrong side carrying University students/staff.

4. A Police Chowki is there near the university but not even a single staff person is found outside to keep an eye on the activities.

When so many accidents are being reported from the same point and complaints are being made for non-functional traffic signal, it is the responsibility of the police department to take n/a. Now since a severe accident has taken place at this place in question, I would request you to kindly deploy Police Officials at the intersection and do the needful.

If you require any support from my side in form of volunteers to assist the Traffic Police in doing a special drive, kindly let me know.

Can diabetes be ward off ?

Adhering to Mediterranean diet, rich in fruits and vegetables and low in animal products, may protect one against developing type 2 diabetes Padma Shri, Dr. B C Roy National Awardee & DST National Science Communication Awardee, Dr. K K Aggarwal, President Heart Care Foundation of India and Sr National Vice President Indian Medical Association.

The diet emphasizes olive oil, vegetables, fruits, nuts, cereals, legumes and fish, and deemphasizes meat and dairy products. It is a healthy eating plan that seems to help in the prevention of heart disease.

In the study published in the British Medical Journal, researchers tracked the diets of 13,380 Spanish university graduates with no history of diabetes. Participants filled out a 136–item food questionnaire, which measured their entire diet (including their intake of fats), their cooking methods and their use of dietary supplements. During an average of 4.4 years of follow–up, the team found that people who adhered to a Mediterranean diet had a lower risk of developing type 2 diabetes. In fact, those who stuck very closely to the diet reduced their risk by 83 percent.

Moreover, the people who tended to stick closest to the diet were those with factors that put them at the highest risk for developing diabetes, such as being older, having a family history of diabetes and being an ex–smoker. These people were expected to have a higher rate of diabetes, but when they adhered to the Mediterranean diet this was not the case.

Type 2 diabetes is typically brought on by poor eating habits, too much weight and too little exercise.
One key factor that might be responsible for the protective effect of the Mediterranean diet is its emphasis on olive oil for cooking, frying, putting on bread and mixing in salad dressings.

Preventing diabetes – TIPSEat less
Omit refined carbohydrates (white sugar, white rice and white maida)
Use olive oil, vegetables, fruits, nuts, cereals, legumes and fish, and reduce meat and dairy products
