Sports Day celebrated at Basava


The weather unfurled its light chill of spring on the lush green sprawling field of Basava International School when Basavites assembled to celebrate the Grand Finale of their sports week. The school had been buzzing with weeklong sports activities and competitions. The Grand Finale commenced with a welcome song by the school choir followed by Principal, Dr. Manimala Roy’s cordial welcome address to the elite gathering. She said, “21stcentury goal of education to live together can be achieved only when children have strong physical and mental health.” She called this celebration as the celebration of quality education and life spirit in Basava children.

The dazzling gallery of guests, who graced the Finale, comprised the Chief Guest, Sh. Pushkar Vohra , Joint Director(Sports), CBSE, special invitees and an astounding 2000 parents as spectators. The Chief Guest declared the Grand Finale celebrations open after handing over the torch to the school’s National Korf Ball player Komalpreet Kaur Dang.

Drumbeats rolled and the students of all the four houses of the school marched smartly to the rhythmic beat of the drum.The synchronized march of the school’s NCC cadets and the thudding sound of their feet were inspiring and stirred the hearts of many with a sense of dignity and pride. Marching contingents were followed by the spectacular tableaux by all the four Houses of the school depicting the theme ‘Good Earth, Good Health’ emphasizing a clean environment to promote good health in children. Models were displayed to sensitize all about the importance of the preservation of the flora and fauna. Drill display by the primary students was a melange of harmony, grace, colour and physical exercise. Students performed 27 yoga asanas with brilliance. Spectators watched with bated breath the school’s skilled skaters and the Taekwondo team performing with élan.

Athletes were seen sprinting on the tracks participating in all the track events enthusiastically. The students cheered their house participants and spurred them to go beyond their best.The field reverberated with exciting cheers. Parents also participated enthusiastically in the ‘Musical Chair’ competition.

The Chief Guest praised the performance of the participants and commended the efforts taken by the school to provide manifold opportunities in the field of sports and games to excel in the arena of their choice. He stressed upon the need of the healthy living and to make the best use of the hidden potentials of the children with a positive approach towards it. The valuable words of wisdom were followed by the prize distribution ceremony .Vote of thanks was proposed and the programme ended with the National Anthem. The Sports Day was celebrated with energy, enthusiasm, verve and vivacity by all Basavites.
