AIKGA’s SPRING FESTIVAL WITH FOCUS ON AQUAPONICS ON 8th MARCH

The All India Kitchen Garden Association (AIKGA) is organising its annual Spring festival with the theme ‘Aquaponics’ (growing vegetables and harvest fresh fish at home) On March 8, 2014 at Gulmohar Park club. The festival will also mark the International Women’s day celebrated world wide on the same day.

“This year AIKGA has shifted the focus and theme of the show on ‘Aquaponics’ gardening as this trend is becoming popular world wide for growing vegetables and fish round the year. The key to aquaponics lies in the water that the plants and fish share. The fish supply nutrients that feed the plants, and the plants clean the water so the fish can live in it." said Ms Bella Gupta, Secretary, All India Kitchen Garden Association (AIKGA) while speaking on the occasion.

“Aquaponics is a viable way to home gardening where Non-root vegetables, like tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce, can thrive in an aquaponic system, while some varieties of edible fish, like tilapia, can be raised to be eaten in the same setup. For promoting this trend AIKGA has organised two sessions of one hour each with a fee of Rs 100 during the festival. But their will be no entry fee for the festival” said Ms Gupta.

The other highlights of the spring festival will be sale of garden related items, farm fresh vegetables, seeds and plants for summers. Various chapters of the association in Delhi and National Capital Region will be presenting whole range of nutrition food and related recipes to meet the needs of changing lifestyle
