E.W.S. HOUSES AT DWARKA TO BE ALLOTTED TO SLUM DWELLERS

In a landmark decision Delhi Development Authority has decided to allot its EWS houses, which are ready at Dwarka and were initially meant to be included into regular housing scheme, to JJ Dwellers. This decision will be a onetime decision as in future the guidelines of HUPA will be followed for formulating schemes for rehabilitating JJ clusters. It was decided that since the EWS flats which are ready and are located at Dwarka, Slum Clusters from near Dwarka will be rehabilitated in these flats. For this purpose six clusters at Indira Camp 2, 4 5, 3 and 6, Vikaspuri and Shanker Garden wherein 2383 slum dwellers reside, have been identified.

The beneficiary’s identification survey has almost been completed and help is also being taken from other socio economic surveys carried out by Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) etc. to complete the identification process. For the recovery of cost, DDA has worked out a formula so as to make these flats affordable for slum clusters. As per this formula part of the cost will be subsidized and part will be recovered from the beneficiary by way of equated monthly installments. Once the beneficiaries have been provided flats the jhuggies occupied by them will be got vacated and simultaneously demolished for land reclamation. The vacated land afterward will be used as per the land use. DDA has also proposed that sufficient safeguards will be built for ensuring that the beneficiaries do not part with the flats. The flats will be given only on licence basis till entire outstanding is paid by the beneficiary. This whole scheme will be a onetime package and all such rehabilitations will be examined on case to case basis.
