The Delhi Jal Board has informed that for solving water shortage at Dwarka, it is in the discussion with DDA and other authorities and trying to reach on some degree of agreement and may be within 3 to 4 month, it will come out with into some productive results. This assurance came in a meeting between CEO and other officers of DJB and the members of the Dwarka Forum on Wednesday. During the meeting, members raised the demand for immediate taking over water supply by the DJB from the DDA, increase of supply to at least 15 mgd and rates at par with the rest of Delhi. It was informed that Water Treatment Plant at Dwarka is almost ready and awaiting testing which can be undertaken only after the water is available from Munak Canal as this exercise requires lot of water with pressure.

The Delhi Govt. had spent Rs. 2,500-crore for the water supply to Dwarka and out of total demand of Rs. 520-crore, by Haryana, Delhi has paid Rs. 415-crore. The DJB informed that out of 46 km. pipeline, 40 km has already been laid but three kilometer stretch at Najafgarh is pending as some houses are coming on its way but problem is likely to be sorted out in the next three month’s time. The DJB informed that it is supplying 5.5 mgd to Dwarka and not 3.5 mgd as informed by the Forum and out of this, about 1.5 mgd is used by nearby colonies and about 0.5 mgd by the Airport. DJB said that it will soon install new system to stop wastage of water while filling the tankers. On testing of water quality she said that any RWA/ Society can send in application so that DJB can outsource an agency for taking samples and testing can be done in the lab. On Sewage Treatment Plant, CEO, Devashri Mukherjee added that Sewer Treatment Plants are not successful for smaller societies because implementing, maintaining and monitoring cost is very high to maintain its parameters.

On a query about the DJB taking amount from different societies of Dwarka when it is not in a position to supply required water, CEO informed that money taken from societies etc. was for providing infrastructure and not as the commitment for supplying the water.

On rainwater harvesting, CEO said that the DJB is already in the process of hiring three agencies for technical support and DJB would also welcome any proposal on RWH from RWA/Societies for the restoration of water
