Ganesh Utsav celebrations by Maharashtra Mitra Mandal Dwarka

Ganpati ala re ala…….. It’s that time of the year again when Dwarka will resonate with sounds of Ganpati Bappa Morya! Come Ganesh Chaturthi, the fourth day of the Hindu month Bhadrapada, the Maharashtrians all over gear up to celebrated the auspicious day when Ganesh was born. Lord Ganesh is an eternal household God of Hindu pantheon. Defined as remover of obstacles (Vignaharta), he is propitiated at the beginning of every religious ritual and ceremony. He is also described as the supreme leader (Vinayak). Ganapati is said to have two spouses Riddhi (intellect) and Siddhi (achievement). Thus he is the master of knowledge and achievement. His parents were Lord Shiva and Parvati. Legends have it that Ganapati himself wrote Mahabharata, the great epic, which was a dictation given by Maharishi Ved Vyas.

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm by many communities but for Maharashtrians it holds a special place of importance. Started by Lokmanya Tilak the sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav has taken a socio religious ceremony. For Maharastrians in north it is time for connecting with their own community and remembering their roots. In Dwarka there is sizable number of Maharshtrian population who every year celebrates Ganesh Utsav with much fanfare. This year too Dwarka Mitra Mandal is gearing up to celebrate Ganesh Puja at True Friends CGHS, Sector-6 from 19th to 23rd September. The active members includes Shaila Chaoji, Purvesha Pitale, Manjiri Anturkar, Dhanajay and Archana Deshpande, Varsha and Rajesh Dorlikar, Anirudha Shukla, P. Chitnis and many more The installation of idol ceremony will be held on 19th evening which will be followed by Sugam Sangeet programme ‘Sur Taal’ by Chandrakant Patankar and group of Swar Poorvanchal Se. 

The major attraction is Kavi Sammelan organized by well known poetess Kirti Kale on 20th. The famous kavis who will recite their hilarious and entertaining poetry includes Surendra Dubey, Kumar Shiv, Suresh Upadhyaya, Arvind Chaturvedi, and Ramesh Gangela. On 21st there is a mini fete and on 22nd is a cultural programme by local talent. On 23rd Uday Kulkarni, a known name in art fraternity is organizing painting competition at 10 am.
