Ek Sangharsh, an NGO based in Dwarka organized a Blood Donation Camp in association with the Rotary Blood Bank. The camp started at around 2PM and concluded at 6PM at Sector 11 Dwarka. In this short span, the Rotary Blood Bank could collect about 50 units of blood which can be termed as a very good response.

Visitors to the camp were also educated about organ donation and around 10 of them pledged their organs to Organ Retrieval Banking Organisation (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi). “Organ Donation is a Gift of Life” were the words of Smt Fotedar(age – 60) while signing the pledge

Ek Sangharsh organized the camp very well and invited people from various colleges and RWA’s. There were people who joined in from places as far as Bahadurgarh and Faridabad in Haryana. The event was publicized well with the help of social media.

Speaking to the donors and Ek Sangharsh volunteers, Shri Ajay Bahl, an RTI Activist from Faridabad said ‘It feels good to donate blood and help someone in need. This is the best possible contribution towards human race.’

The donors were provided nutritious snacks, fruits and juice. All donors were also given a certificate and donor’s card. The donor’s card can be used for getting blood for anyone in need from the donor’s family.

‘It was first experience for team Ek Sangharsh and we got an overwhelming response from locals. People were really excited about donating blood as it made them feel proud to be helping someone in need. We have taken feedback from all donors. We will be organizing more such camps at various places in Delhi. Hope citizens will stay connected with Ek Sangharsh in all our initiatives for social welfare’, said Shobhit Chauhan, Founder President of Ek Sangharsh.

Ek Sangharsh is also working on a number of other issues including Road Safety, use of RTI Act, Transparency in Police Department, Education, Helping the poor and disadvantaged people. Ek Sangharsh team can be reached on Facebook;

Blood Donation Lowers the Risk of Heart Attack

Dr KK Aggarwal
Padma Shri and Dr B C Roy National Awardee
President, Heart Care Foundation of India

Government policy should change from replacement donor to 100% voluntary donor, said Padma Shri & Dr. B.C. Roy National Awardee Dr. KK Aggarwal, President, Heart Care Foundation of India. He said that it is possible that under the disguise of replacement donor a professional donor will enter into the system. He also said that under replacement blood donor system, a patient requiring multiple transfusions or outstation patients may find it difficult to get replacement donors.

No blood donation is 100% safe, he further added. Diseases can still be in the window period and get transmitted even if the blood tests are negative. Sophisticated blood tests detecting antigens of the organisms are not done in the country, either the tests are costly or not available in blood banks. They are also not mandatory under the national policy. Donating blood reduces the chances of heart attack. People who regularly donate blood are healthier than people who have never donated blood. One should donate blood every year either on their birthday or on the Blood Donor’s Day.

He said that blood is a precious gift, which one can give to somebody unknown. It is possible that one unit of donated blood can save multiple lives.

More than 70,000 units of blood are required in Delhi every month. More camps should be organized by non medical associations so that the shortage of blood can be taken care of.

PremBabu Sharma

Priyadarshan is known for his infectious sense of humor that works so well with the audiences. The same goes for the set of actors who swear by him. The day, Priyadarshan received the Padmashri, with his team of dedicated actors, the director was shooting for Percept Pictures’ Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal in Film City. Considering that this was also the year when Priyan again bagged the National Award as well as taking on the responsibility of the Chairman of the Kerala Chalchitra Academy, there is a lot to look forward to. But Priyan is a man of few words. Focus is the key and he prefers to let his work do the talking. We catch up with Priyadarshan at Film City and get him talking...
So, it is Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal this time...  Yes.

Tell us more about it...
Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal is a big film in terms of narrative, the plot size, number of days of shoot etc. The production values are great, the cast is also a treat to work with. We have Nana Patekar with Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Shreyas Talpade, Asrani, Shakti Kapoor amongst many others and this time the music also gets mainstream with Sajid Wajid. I am very happy with what they have created. It is fun, original and enjoyable to the fullest.

How is it working with seasoned actors?
They have all worked with me or are people with whom I share a mutual admiration. When you have actors who trust you completely, it is a delight. I do not believe in favoritism. The actors are cast according to the script once it is complete. That is the way I always function.

But you have always stated that if you were a woman, you would have married Paresh Rawal?
(Grins) Yes, I did. It is because he is with me in almost 20 films. If he was a woman, they would have stated, we have an affair. He is a man. So I made that statement. What should I say about him or Shakti or Asrani? They have worked with me on so many films. To them, it is just another film they enjoy being part of.

How is Nana to work with?
We share a mutual admiration for one another. He is a pleasure to work with.

So, does Nana have a pretty woman opposite him?
Why does he need one? He has me (guffaws!)

What about Shreyas Talpade?
Shreyas is one of the most talented actors I ever met. He has not been exploited to his fullest potential. This film will bring him to a new league altogether...

What about your leading lady?
She is opposite Shreyas Talpade and I will talk about her when the time is right. All I can say is that we found her after auditioning almost 22 girls. She has the look we need, is a good dancer and is sensible. I think, we will add another girl to the list of Bollywood’s wanted leading ladies after this film.

You said this film is more musical...
Yes, we have some great score by Sajid-Wajid. The earlier film did not focus on music. This one has some amazing numbers.

So how does it feel receiving the Padmashri?
83 films, 150 ads, 16 National Awards for films and two myself, I think I deserve it. And I am the only director to make films with both genres over 32 years in all five languages...(We couldn’t have phrased it better, Priyan!)

IIM graduate and education entrepreneur pens a collection of Urdu poetry ‘Shayad, Yaheen se ho…’

Prembabu Sharma

‘Shaayad yaheen se ho’, a collection of Urdu poetry by debutante poet Satya Narayanan R (Muasir) was released by Dr. S.Y.Quraishi, India’s Chief Election Commissioner (CEC).

Launch of Satya's Book (Left to Right)Mr. Bishan Singh Bedi, Mrs. Radha Rama Krishnan, Mr. Satya Narayan R, Dr. S Y Quraishi, India's Chief Election Commissioner, Prof K.K. Mehta, Mr Rama Krishnan
The book of Urdu poems is dedicated to the Late Professor Akhlaq Mohammed Khan ‘Shahryar’ - Satya’s inspiration to learn Urdu. The songs were also unveiled through artistic expressions via a live vocal music and Kathak (abhinaya/ art of expression) performance by distinguished artists.

‘Shayad Yaheen se ho’ is inspired by themes which closely touch human lives which include mother nature, childhood, love, leadership and reflections from the personal journey. It envisions a very deep and insightful understanding of life and its elements. The poetry in the book is laid out in three scripts-Persian, Roman and Devanagari.

In his peshlafz (foreword), Dr. Karan Singh shares - “Apart from the quality and ambiance of the poems themselves, the remarkable thing is that Satya comes from South India with Tamil as his mother tongue. His father is an eminent Sanskrit scholar. Perhaps, it was because of this exposure to the unique vibrations of Sanskrit from early childhood, that he developed love for these languages and therefore the capacity to write creatively in Urdu.”

Dedicating the book Late ‘Shahryar’, Mr. Satya Narayanan R said, “Shahryar, the most admired Urdu poet of this century, has been an inspiration and his outstanding contribution to literature will inspire many more.’

Talking about his book, Mr. Satya Narayanan R. said, "Learning Urdu was a passion and writing poetries in the same language was like giving life to my expressions about life. Urdu has given me the power for creative expression of thoughts. This has been an exciting journey for me and the experience has been similar to my incredible journey of being a entrepreneur or leading my college cricket team.”

The book is accompanied by an audio CD where the ghazals and nazms have been given a voice by young music artists.

Website on Divine Brahmnaad Meditation launched

Dhyanyogi Omdasji has developed a unique systematic technique of BRAHMNAAD or Divine Sound Meditation. Brahma is the Sanskrit word means Cosmos and Nada means Sound. So Brahmanada is the Cosmic Sound, the primal vibration, the divine, ever present creative sound. It is the very core of spiritual practices.

Dhyanyogi Omdasji is a self realized, ParamGuru of Kundalini Maha Yoga. His chief mission is to awaken the infinite source of energy lying dormant within the seeker. The cosmic grace of Shri Dhyanyogi Omdasji sees no worldly distinction of caste, class, culture, religion and region.

The vibration of Divine Sound stimulates the nerve, plexus and endocrine glands of body and integrates body-mind-soul trinity. This leads to improved health and energy. It increases the physical and spiritual energy of the body.

When the mind is absorbed in the BRAHMNAAD it seems to slow down and become peaceful. Most meditators report feelings of ecstasy, bliss and utmost peace when they meditate with the BRAHMNAAD.

Unique Identification Authority of India has started dispatch of Aadhaar Cards by speed post and yesterday, I have received the same. Yesterday, I visited the post office at Sector 6, Dwarka and found that thousands of cards were pending for distribution and will soon be delivered. Due to lack of distributing staff, it may take some time. The post office really deserves more staff.

Fortunately, there was no mistake in the card while in the Voter Id, my sex was mentioned as female. The card mentions name, father’s name, address, phone number, year of birth and sex. It is also mentioned that the card is valid throughout the country and it will be helpful in availing govt. and non-govt. services in future. Also, Aadhaar is proof of identity, not of citizenship which is good. It should be authenticated online to establish the identity though this is beyond my comprehension and shall be gratful if any member can give further information on this. The website of the Aadhaar authority as given on card is and the helpline number is 1800 180 1947.

The Rat Hunters of Assam !

R.D. Bharadwaj "Noorpuri"

I was very much pained and disappointed after an article in a leading English newspaper - The Hindu, entitled - "The Rat Hunters of Assam" by Ritu Raj Konwer, a few days ago, which portrays briefly the life of a tribal / adivasi family of Ram Soren, who earns his livelihood by hunting and selling rats from nearby rivers and fields etc. They kill rats not only to earn money but also to eat them. The story further states that he had to resort to hunting rats a few years ago, when suddenly his son had fallen ill and he did not have sufficient money to get him cured. He was left with no other option but to sell his small holding of agricultural land and thereby enable him to get medical facility for his son.

It is really very shocking and sorry state of affairs that even after 65 years of India attaining independence, our so called galaxy of leaders could not improve the social and economic position of the common people. It could not have been made possible because our leaders could not provide them some worthwhile employment, which could afford them to have two scare meals a day and a small roof over their heads. Crores of poor people across the length and breadth of the country are not making a good living, and they are just surviving the vagaries of nature by satisfying their hunger, the way animals are doing so - i.e. by eating anything - human or inhuman.

Our democratically elected governments at Centre and all States should awake from their deep slumber and try their level best to provide some good means of employment to the poor people (irrespective of their state, caste, community, religion of region) to enable them to get sufficient income from their work and that they are enabled to make good living; rather than leading just an animal's life and are compelled to satisfy their hunger and fill their stomachs with anything they could lay their hands on, simply because they can't buy something better. Thousands crores of funds have been swindled by the innumerable scamsters and lakhs crores of Indian money has been stashed in Swish and some other foreign banks, but precious little is being done by the governmental machinery to improve the precious lives of poor and needy people. Rather they are being forced to lead an animal's life.

It should also be borne in mind that no country or society can boast of making all round development, progress and prosperity even if a part of it keeps on lagging behind socially and economically. The wholesome development can be made possible only if the entire society moves ahead and their social and economic status makes a discernible improvement. It is true and comparable to the same way and situation as no person can feel healthy and enjoy life if a part of his body continues to ache and give him frequent troubles and thus, puts a dampener or a speed breaker on his well being and smooth sailing. The Central Government and all state governments should sit together and think it seriously and put all scamsters behind the bars, recover their ill gotten money worth thousands of crores and utilise the same to complete the thousands of ongoing projects spread across the country. And if this could be achieved, that will automatically provide employment opportunities to the crores of poor people, which will ultimately uplift and improve their health and life significantly - in more than one manner. And in the scenario which shall emerge after that situation, no person shall have to hunt rats or other insects just to satisfy their hunger.

Piya Ka Ghar Pyaara Lage On Sahara One

Ashok Kumar Nirbhay

After Pinki's bidaai all the guests and relatives leave except Angad and Urmila. Everyone in the house is aware of Pinki's misplaced ornaments and Bittu is held responsible for the same. In such a tense situation Bittu's another lie is disclosed when Sejal's father, Hasmukh reveals to her that Bittu is unemployed. Sejal's parents take her home from her in-laws place and Bittu is also asked to leave the house by his father. Bittu fails to prove his innocence to Sejal while his mother Rano declares that she will not eat anything till her son returns home. Sensing trouble in the family ties, Urmila takes advantage of the situation and tries to convince Rano against her daughter-in-law Sejal.

Meanwhile Sejal files a police complaint of the missing jewellery so that she can prove Bittu's innocence. She also searches for the jewellery at various places since she is very sure that Bittu is falsely accused. Bittu is staying at Prakash's place and his mother Rano carries food for him and also tries to convince him to return home. But Bittu is adamant and declares that since he is out of his own house and his wife Sejal has also left him he should even leave the city and go far away. On the other hand Sejal feels lonely without Bittu and her in-laws. Back home Rano's condition worsens as Harbans finally agrees to call back Bittu. As Bittu returns back he brings a glass of water for his mother and hugs her. At that moment even Sejal who had gone back to her home returns along with the misplaced jewellery.

But the overall situation has left a very bitter taste in the inter-personal relationship of the family. Rano for the first time assumes Sejal's love for Bittu to be fake and starts trusting Urmila's viewpoints. This also creates a vacuum in relation between Rano and Sejal and the situation leads to a point where comparisons are drawn between a mother's love for her son and the wife's love for her husband.

He belongs to Panwar/Parmar (Ujjain Rajputs as they are locally known in Bihar or in and around his birth place). His ancestors belong to the dynasty of the great Raja Vikramaditya as well as Raja Bhoj of Malwa. Babu Kunwar Singh was nearly eighty and in failing health when he was called upon to take up arms. Prevent migraine headaches

Dr (Maj) Pankaj N Surange
MBBS, MD, FIPP (Hungary)
Interventional Pain and Spine Specialist

Recurrent Headaches Could be Migraine If you have Headache Triggered by Light, sound….…. Triggered by Smoking, alcohol…… Associated with Nausea and Vomiting………

1. What are migraine headaches?
Migraines are disabling headaches that most likely stem from problems with the nerves and blood vessels in the head. Migraine headaches typically last from 4-72 hours. They may occur as often as several times a week to only once a year.

Migraine headaches affect about 15% of the population. Three times as many women as men have migraines. Over 80% of migraineurs have family members who have migraines. The following types of migraine headache have been identified:

•Migraine without aura (common migraine): This type accounts for 80% of migraine headaches. There is no aura before a common migraine.

•Migraine with aura (classic migraine): This type is usually preceded by an aura and is usually much worse than a common migraine. Most often, an aura is a visual disturbance (outlines of lights or jagged light images).

•Status migrainosus: This is the term used to describe a long-lasting migraine that does not go away by itself

2. Are Migraines Hereditary?
Yes, migraines have a tendency to run in families. Four out of five migraine sufferers have a family history of migraines. If one parent has a history of migraines, the child has a 50% chance of developing migraines, and if both parents have a history of migraines, the risk jumps to 75%.

3. Can Migraines Be Prevented?
Yes. You can reduce the frequency of your migraine attacks by identifying and then avoiding migraine triggers. You can keep track of your headache patterns and identify headache triggers by using a headache diary .Recalling what was eaten prior to an attack may help you identify chemical triggers. Stress management and coping techniques, along with relaxation training, can help prevent or reduce the severity of the migraine attacks. Women who often get migraines around their menstrual period can take preventive therapy when they know their period is coming.
Regular exercise -- in moderation -- can also help prevent migraines.

4. What Pain Medications Are Responsible for Causing Rebound Headaches?
Many commonly used pain relief medications, when taken in large enough amounts, can cause rebound headaches. Drugs once thought of as "safe" are turning up as the likeliest culprits. These include:

Sinus relief medications
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications
Sedatives for sleep
Codeine and prescription narcotics

While small amounts of these drugs per week may be safe (and effective) -- at some point, the continued medication use can lead to the development of low grade headaches that just will not go away.

5. Can Allergies Cause Headaches?
It is a misconception that allergies cause headaches. However, allergies can cause sinus congestion, which can lead to headache pain. If you have allergies, the treatment for your allergy will not relieve your headache pain. The two conditions generally must be treated separately. See your doctor to ensure proper treatment.

6. What Food Triggers Headaches?
Some of the most common food, beverages, and additives associated with headaches include:

Aged cheese and other tyramine-containing foods: Tyramine is a substance found naturally in some foods. It is formed from the breakdown of protein as foods age. Generally, the longer a high-protein food ages, the greater the tyramine content. The amount of tyramine in cheeses differs greatly due to the variations in processing, fermenting, aging, degradation, or even bacterial contamination. Tyramine is also found in red wine, alcoholic beverages, and some processed meats.

Alcohol: Blood flow to your brain increases when you drink alcohol. Some scientists blame the headache on impurities in alcohol or by-products produced as your body metabolizes alcohol. Red wine, beer, whiskey, and champagne are the most commonly identified headache triggers.

Food additives: Food preservatives (or additives) contained in certain foods can trigger headaches. The additives, nitrates and nitrites, dilate blood vessels, causing headaches in some people.

Cold foods: Cold food, like ice cream, can cause headaches in some people. It's more likely to occur if you are overheated from exercise or hot temperatures. Pain, which is felt in the forehead, peaks 25 to 60 seconds and lasts from several seconds to one or two minutes. More than 90% of migraine sufferers report sensitivity to ice cream and cold substances.

Bittoo Boss Duo Pulkit Samrat & Amita Pathak On The Late Night Show

Ashok Kumar Nirbhay

Debutant actors Pulkit Samrat and Amita Pathak from the soon to be released comedy film Bittoo Boss will be the celebrity guests on The Late Night Show. Keeping up with the unconventional nature of the show, the lead pair volunteered to be a part of a gag on Indian Weddings, with anchor Sumeet Raghavan being at his humorous best.

Pulkit Samrat says, "Finally we can boast of a Television show in our country bursting with intelligent humour. I am a regular follower of The Late Night Show & think Sumeet is brilliant with his timing. It was great to be a part of this really funny show."

"Rather than a jaded format of a sit down interview, we have put up a highly entertaining act which is in line with the concept of The Late Night Show. Performing with great talents like Sumeet and Pulkit was an amazing experience. Watch out for this one" added Amita Pathak. "Everyone go watch Bittoo Boss if you want a paisa wasool fun time in the theatres. Kyunki Bitoo Sabki lega" quipped Pulkit and Amita when asked about the film.

The association between Bittoo Boss and The Late Night Show show seemed like a match made in heaven! The Late Night show is famous for its satirical tongue-in-cheek humour and the promos of Bittoo Boss suggest that the film will tread a similar path.

Sumeet Raghavan, host of The Late Night Show says, "It was a great experience to pull Pulkit & Amita's leg over the censorship issue. They took it well in their stride & were quite sporty. Bittoo Boss surely will be one hell of an entertaining film with such a fresh pair" Not one to spare anyone Sumeet even cracked the whip on the "le le" dialogues from the film!

The Late Night Show is uniquely scripted and uncensored and has an irreverent take on happenings of all kinds, across the board. It relies on a satire of news including everyone and everything that makes headlines across the world for the stand-up routine and gags. The show focuses on entertaining and funny conversations for the interview segment which features a host of fake celebrities, especially political personalities, through biting commentary on the state of affairs. The show has developed its own style of 'animation coupled with live action' to create a new comic paradigm.

Asia’s first Robotic Vascular Surgery Held at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital

Keeping its tradition of providing the best in patient care, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH), a premier super speciality modern health care facility, proudly announces the setting up of state of the art –Institute of Robotic Surgery, equipped with da-Vinci Si Surgical system with simulator facility, first of its kind in the country. This surgical system uses a sophisticated machine designed to enable the surgeon perform the most precise and least invasive procedure possible.

Robotic Surgery Equpments
da-Vinci Si Surgical system with simulator facility
Institute of Robotic Surgery (IRS)

Institute of Robotic Surgery has been conceptualised in SGRH as a centre of excellence in Robotic Surgery. Its da-Vinci Si Surgical System is unique as it is the only one in our country that has a SIMULATOR to teach and train surgeons before performing actual surgery.

This Robotic system was installed in SGRH on March 15, 2012 and first successful robotic surgery was done on March 16, 2012 in the form of a Robotic Thymectomy for Myasthenia Gravis. Following this, various departments including Thoracic Surgery, MAS & Bariatric Surgery, Urology, Gynaecology and Vascular Surgery performed Robotic procedures in their respective fields. In the first month of its existence, close to 30 successful robotic surgeries were performed at IRS @ SGRH by various departments with excellent outcomes. It is a record for the largest number and the widest range of procedures done at any robotic institute in India in its first month.

Dr. D.S. Rana, Chairman, Board of Management, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Informed Dwarka Parichay that he congratulates the team IRS @ SGRH for achieving many milestones in its very first month of existence. I wish them good luck in their future endeavours for better patient care. He is sure, in the years to come, IRS @ SGRH will bring many laurels to the country.

IRS has the following three objectives:

1. To provide cutting edge Surgical Care :
We at IRS @ SGRH strive to provide our patients with the best possible surgical care leading to better clinical outcomes. This is made possible by a team of leading surgeons in their respective field working along with a team of highly competent and dedicated anaesthesiologists and physicians. The motto is to achieve excellence by collective wisdom.

2. Technology development
Despite being a state of the art machine, the currently available robotic technology has tremendous scope for improvement, including cost containment. Conscious of its social responsibility, the Institute of Robotic Surgery @ SGRH has set for itself the task of making this state of the art treatment available to all sections of the society. We plan to soon enter into tie ups with various leading national & International agencies which are active in the field of Biomedical-engineering, robotics and allied technologies. We will strive hard to improve on the current technology, making it simpler and cheaper. IRS has a vision of making this treatment available to the masses with an “Indianised” - better & cheaper version of the currently available robotic technology.

Dr Arvind Kumar & Dr Bhatia explaining the benefits of robotic surgery
3. Training & Research
IRS promotes training of surgeons and ancillary staff in Robotic Surgery which is a relatively new field. We want to spread knowledge and expertise to surgeons practising at various places so that the benefit of the Robotic Surgery can be availed by maximum number of patients. We have already organised country’s first CME on Robotic Vascular Surgery on April 8, 2012. We now plan to conduct CMEs and training programs on regular basis for Surgeons as well as paramedical staff.

The Institute has invested heavily (close to Rs. 1 crore) to get a Simulator along with the Robotic system. This is unique in itself as it provides for training to the surgeons in a virtual environment before performing the actual surgery. It helps them to assess their skills of Robotic surgery without harming the patient.

Sir Ganga Ram Hospital takes pride in being one of the premier centres for medical education and research. We have plans to research various aspects in Robotic Surgery and compare our data with the best centres in the world. Through ongoing research projects in various applications of robotics in surgery, we will strive to get the best possible clinical outcomes and world class patient care.

Asia’s first Robotic Vascular Surgery

IRS is pleased to inform that we performed Asia’s first Robotic Aortic surgery in the very first month of our existence. Aorta is the main blood vessel carrying blood in human body. There are various diseases of aorta like blockade (atherosclerosis) or ballooning (aneurysm), which require surgical repair. Traditionally, it has been performed by Open Surgery, leaving big scars and taking long time to recovery in these sick patients.

IRS performed four successful Robotic aortic procedures for aortoiliac atherosclerotic blockade and Abdominal Aortic aneurysm. This was a rare surgery because joining of artificial graft to aorta is very difficult, needs highly specialised suturing skills and TIME is the key. This was possible at IRS @ SGRH because of technical expertise of surgeons combined with robotic technology.

These patients benefited a lot from this surgery and were happily discharged. Conventional surgery would have led to a large incision on the abdomen which was replaced by multiple small punctures due to robotic use. They experienced much less pain and required no blood transfusions. The clinical outcome was much better than conventional surgery due to better vision and instrumentation. Team IRS @ SGRH is committed to take the Institute of Robotic Surgery to the pinnacle of safe surgical care. We will do everything possible to make IRS @ SGRH the mecca of Robotic Surgery – in its clinical applications, teaching & training as well as development of newer, affordable technologies” Prof. Arvind Kumar-Director, IRS @ SGRH.
