Do not ignore anxiety attacks

Do not ignore attacks of anxiety or irritability as these may be an indication of underlying hyperfunctioning of a thyroid, a butterfly–shaped gland in the middle of the neck, located below the larynx (voice box) and above the clavicles (collarbones), said Dr. K.K. Aggarwal, Padma Shri and Dr B C Roy National Awardee and President, Heart Care Foundation of India.

The thyroid produces two hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) that regulate how the body uses and stores energy (also known as the body’s metabolism). Thyroid function is controlled by a gland in the brain, known as the pituitary. The pituitary produces thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), which stimulates the thyroid to produce T3 and T4. When the thyroid hyper functions, it produces too much thyroid hormone. When this occurs, the body’s metabolism is increased, which can cause a variety of symptoms.

Most people with hyperthyroidism have symptoms, including one or more of the following:

*Anxiety and irritability
*Weakness (in particular of the upper arms and thighs, making it difficult to lift heavy items or climb stairs)
*Tremors (of the hands)
*Perspiring more than normal
*Difficulty tolerating hot weather
*Rapid or irregular heartbeats
*Fatigue
*Weight loss in spite of a normal or increased appetite
*Frequent bowel movements.
*In addition, some women have irregular menstrual periods or stop having their periods altogether. This can be associated with infertility.
*Men may develop enlarged or tender breasts, or erectile dysfunction, which resolves when hyperthyroidism is treated.

‘Debate Punarvivaah’ raises interesting questions about remarriage

Prembabu Sharma

Sparking off a debate on the issue of ‘remarriage’ in the city on Wednesday, March 28, Zee TV brought together a panel of experts who shared their views and perspectives on the controversial subject that still remains a taboo across several sections of society. Following the launch of Zee TV’s show ‘Punarvivaah’ which sensitively deals with the issue, the channel has embarked on a nationwide campaign aimed at driving people to think in an evolved manner about the subject and eliminate the stigma that surrounds widows or divorcees seeking to rediscover marital bliss a second time.

For the discussion held at the Zee TV auditorium, Ms. Kumkum Chadha - Consultant with Hindustan Times and formerly its Editor (National News) was joined on the panel by Mr. Calla - Retd. Justice of Gujarat and Rajasthan High Court, Dr Aruna Broota who has been a professor at the Department of Psychology with a doctorate in clinical psychology, Adv. Nirmala Samant Prabhavalkar- Ex-mayor of Mumbai, Dr Shakeel-Uz-Zaman Ansari Ji.- Secretary of All India Congress Committee and Chairman of the National Minority Forum, Dr. Shobhit Kumar- Chancellor of Shobhit University.

The discussion threw up some interesting questions on the subject of remarriage - What could possibly be wrong or objectionable about two people getting remarried and attempting to find happiness in life after a failed first marriage? Are divorcees or widows not entitled to start over afresh? ‘Debate Punarvivaah’ also questioned the double standards Indians display towards the issue of remarriage: While men can easily remarry, women who wish to remarry are frowned upon by the conservative sections of Indian society. Why the gender bias? The debate then probed into the success of remarriages - Can a person after having loved his or her partner deeply in the course of their first marriage get oneself to move on and love a second life partner? On the other hand, if a person has been left emotionally bruised by an abusive spouse in their first marriage, does he or she ever manage to wipe the slate clean and give their second partner a fair chance? Or does the baggage from the first marriage often kill the prospects of happiness in the second marriage?

The discussion also considered cases of divorcees or widows who already had children from their first marriages. The discussion deliberated on the impact of their marriage on the psyche of their children. Are most children typically resistant towards their new step-parent? Can their negativity be won over through love and affection in the longer run? Does having a caring father/mother figure (even if it is not their own biological parent) help their holistic growth and development? With each panelist bringing his own original perspective to the discussion and all the audience members participating actively, the discussion at ‘Debate Punarvivaah’ turned out to be fruitful with a lot of fresh insights on the issue of remarriage coming to the fore.

Punarvivaah is a mature, progressive show that sensitively captures the journey of a man and a woman, who having faced a debacle in their first attempts at marriage, are brave enough to give life a second chance. The show delves into the dynamics of re-marriage, showcasing the trials and tribulations that are a part of re-adjusting to a second life partner. When the man you called your soul mate leaves you for another woman, can you possibly bring yourself to believe in the sanctity of marriage again? After the woman you fell hopelessly in love with passes away, crushing your every romantic dream, can you muster the courage to feel for another afresh? Will the two be able to bring happiness to each others’ lives and feel complete once again? Will the two feel the same intensity and excitement that they had experienced in their first brush with love?

Stay tuned to Zee TV’s ‘Punarvivaah’ – a show that is attempting to make a difference to public perception about the issue of remarriage at 10:30 PM every Monday to Friday on Zee TV.

UMANG 2012 CELEBRATED AT JMIS, DWARKA

Carrying on with the JMIS tradition, the Pre-Primary section of JM INTERNATIONAL School, Dwarka, sector-6 celebrated its Children’s Theatre Festival and Graduation Ceremony “UMANG” on 22nd March, 2012.

The day proved to be extremely memorable for the little graduates of Montessori School as they walked across the stage in their vibrant and gorgeous graduation caps and robes to receive their graduation certificates from dignatries.

The program started off with floral welcome, lighting of lamp and welcome speech by school Principal Ms Anuradha Govind. ‘NAMAN’ a classical dance show, wherein girls of class I & II mesmerized the viewers by performing Bhratnayam, Odissi and Mohiniattam which was followed by a skit, ‘Hamare Dost’ presented by grade nursery students. The skit was thoroughly enjoyable and informative as students enacted and acknowledged the dignity of work and the value of being thankful to each other.

Colours, how much importance they have in our world was exhibited by kindergarten students in a skit ‘Duniya Rang Biragi’. Through this skit children learnt the importance of colours and the value of unity.

Rhymes, PPts, effective props, songs and participation of mother teachers in both the skits enhanced the charm of viewing. Good habits make us perfect. And what is good and bad for children was depicted in class I & II skit, “ Kya Accha Kya Bura.”Grand Finale , The Western Dance” left the audience awe-struck.

It was in the midst of these vibrant and foot tapping events that the nursery children were awarded their “Graduation Certificates ‘.Each certificate was unique, as it bore a different title for each child.

The poise and confidence exhibited by the students in their performances was a sight to behold. JMIS children have a multitude of opportunities to perform on stage in front of audiences throughout the year, and this gives them an edge by building their self-confidence and a foundation for future success. In the end, Principal gave the vote of thanks to all the staff member for their contribution. The ceremony was most certainly a highly appreciated and successful event.

Any slip-up at this stage will cost us dearly: Armando

Dempo SC Head Coach Armando Colaco is back in the thick of action. Having fully recovered from a heart attack, Armando is excited about Dempo emerging as the strongest contenders to claim the I-League. In a freewheeling interview with www.the-aiff.com, he spoke at length about how it feels to be back among football, the performance of his team and much more. EXCERPTS:

Armando Colaco
How difficult was the phase when you were away from action?
Football is everything for me and Dempo has always been an integral part of my life. Living without either of them is very difficult. I am filled with joy to be back in the thick of action.

Dempo enjoys an eight-point lead at the top of the table over their nearest rival. Can you say you have already won the I-League?
Frankly speaking, we are not thinking about the Championship at the moment. We are taking one match at a time. We face Mohun Bagan in Kolkata in our next match and they are tough opponents. Though the boys are playing well, we need to stay alert. Any slip-up at this stage would cost us dearly, which we really can’t afford.

Bagan drew their last match against Air India and would be under immense pressure to win rest of their matches. Do you have an edge prior to the kick-off?
The draw against Air India makes Bagan all the more dangerous. They are a Champion side and are capable of turning the tables at any time. They also enjoy home advantage and the crowd support. We have to play to our potential if we want to consolidate our position.

Ranti Martins is in a prime form this season, how would you rate his contribution?
Ranti is an exceptional player and fully understands his responsibility. He has been with the team for so long and knows exactly as to what I expect from him. He is fully enjoying his football at the moment.

`Written Complain` excuse cannot hide the truth as casualty in Defence

Rakesh Manchanda

Today, the corruption is as dangerous as an enemy or the terrorist attack. The Whistle blown by Army Chief this time is more explosive and more clear. General VK Singh states that in the past, he was offered Rs. 14 crore bribe for allowing the traditional 600 substandard vehicles to be purchased more. Sources put the real cost of each vehicle in the market as 40 lakh but the jacked up price in army purchase is 1.04 crore. He says that he reported this critical issue immediately in person to Defence Minister but no action was taken which forced the issue to get Public now by media. Army Chief said the tructs, 7,000 of which were already in use in the Army, had been sold over the years at exorbitant prices with no questions asked. The repair team has to be flown in from Europe in spite of Indian market competent to provide similar trucks. He said there was no proper facility where they could be serviced and maintained and yet these vehicles continued to be sold to the Army. Army chief further states that the same hidden lobby had been engaged in his date of Birth injustice as they want him to cooperate.

On Monday, 26th. March-2012 the Parliament was rocked and blocked and Defence Minister is forced to hand over this delayed issue now to CBI. How the CBI is going to act on the past incidence as old as 23rd. Sept.-2010 the future shall tell. No arrest of the army supplier so far stands teasing and why Defence minister as the superior of Army chief remained quite in the past needs to be probed. The courage of the ex-army officer Lt. Gen.Tejinder Singh now the arms dealer and vehicle pedlar shows the depth and reach of corruption in the defence and security of the nation. Corruption of 1% lobby today is so powerful that the `honest` minister is forced to put forward an excuse of no written complaint by the army chief ? Why the system is unable to protect the whistle blower ? `Truth` is so scared that the minister and the system forgets that no one waits for a written procedure excuse to act when the enemy and terrorist attacks. Even now when there is Public exposure and media pressure the CBI has no written complain but is acting on media reports supported by minister order. Role Model organisations like Defence force need to look inwards and search truth as been killed and hidden again and again with or without the written complains.

Let us examine how and why the Army Chief written plea in the past on simple correction of date of Birth since past several decades was dismissed lightly by Supreme Court.

Casualty of “truth” in the big battle between law and logic for a correct date of birth of the Army Chief remains hidden. Can truth, army discipline, promotion procedure, speculative line of army chief succession and input of personnel identity have different logic? Unfortunately, truth continues to have 2 faces. First, truth is based on conventional media stories fired by politically powerful ministries with its potential for coercion in the name of `discipline’. Second face of Truth remains a weak participatory team in the ministry inquiring with the potential of a `lever` for improving the quality of army life but trained to obey the superiors. Such teams in the Defence Ministry are responsible to store the correct date of birth & identity of an employee to preserve his self dignity and honour which at times get compromised.

Gen V K Singh birth certificate date correction in spite of open evidences of matriculation certificate has been refused by defence ministry, Law ministry, AGI and now Supreme Court perhaps to safeguard the old feudal systems in Army under the weak excuse called “discipline”. Supreme Court on Friday hearing refused to accept the date of birth correction plea, pointing out that the Army Chief, who accepted the government's decision in determining his date of birth as May 10, 1950 on three occasions, could not go back on his past commitment. His petition was disposed of as he accepted the option given to him to withdrawn. This is painted now by media as a `Beating Retreat`. This counselling by Supreme Court also exposes the limitation of the judges as individuals outsourced to settle disputes based on the limited evidences which got precipitated due to poor participatory environment in the defence ministry. Supreme Court while refusing judgement on this issue comments, “We understand your (VK Singh) pain, but you yourself (as a junior in the past) left the final decision to authorities”. It is clear the judges felt the pain of the disjoint system in the Defence ministry that keep records of the army personals but missed the opportunity perhaps in absence of evidences to reunite the honest and down to earth Defence Minister and the serving General in the Army who is known for his anti-graft crusade in Army.

Whistle blowing by General VK Singh in the faulty army systems needs a civilian 100% support and salute. Army Chief may have lost the “age war” but the combat for future corruption free systems must go on. The general dared to split open selective identity issues and graft in the administrative systems in the Army which forces to follow seniors blindly but ignore the truth. In the past as documented well by the media, VK Singh was forced to conditionally accept the verdict of his seniors in the army who advised him to chill up & wait patiently but at the same time he was asked to acknowledge the separate file for anticipating promotions displaying his false date of birth. Closed door issue about correction in data entry was forcefully dragged on. When VK Singh became chief of Army he exercised his right to reach Supreme Court to expose the old feudal system based on obeying the senior in spite of false facts based on his date of birth. System now stands weak with promotions in Army based on age and not on merit. This faulty system which has been the bedrock of Indian Army under the mask of arm twisting discipline needs to be changed with dignity. The evidence point out that corrupt Army System controlled by a minority lobby want to get rid of the General who does not favour corruption in procurements.

Army, in a democratic state like India, is well known for its impartial secular services in serving civilians during crisis like floods, terrorist attack, earthquake and so on. Delay on such petty error which has now been magnified and has challenged the weak systems and refusal of judgment by law makers, law executers and law enforcing agencies shows weak face of Governance. People as law abiders need fast justice driven by truth but the speed and the direction of the truth needs correction. The seeds of justice need to re-sown in the Defence ministry itself via general bodies and correct participation of data monitors in time. When this participatory process is never done the seed for justice remain to be outsourced by the Supreme court counselling who cannot manufacture data and evidences but can only cater justice based on the limited perceptions and documents carried forward to them.

Outside the Indian army the report card of government work inspectors is worst. Indian corporate and middle level business houses continue to engage employees, consultants & partners without valid work contracts treating employees as invisible fodder in their personnel endeavour for more profits. Outside army the law enforcement is very weak. Army as role model is the “take away” of Public interest in this conflict. Common Man cannot even dream of Supreme Court settling his conflicts. India needs an overall redresser and reform of work systems which at present ridicules the image of Team India. Both Defence minister and General must close this issue of Date of Birth as a `default fruit` of Bad Governance. They must holistically collect new seeds of future justice in work systems for better India and for a participatory Republic. Only in-house participation to sustain the hidden truth can help avoid the dispute over the bad fruit again in future. Media stories are flooded with different trajectories of truth as put forward by several army officers. It is said that as the General's objections to European Consortium Fighter plane deal due to cost/performance superiority of the French Rafael harmed Italian interests, the Government found a way to ease him out. However, it is 50-50 now. Rafael has won the bid and the honorable SC has disposed the case effectively in favour of 1950. Many including Col. Shivraj a crusader against old systems in India are concerned about how the meek and modest truth shall get “rescued” after this Ceasefire. Fact remains that a soldier on joining the Defence, loses his Fundamental Rights given by the Constitution to unite or to form an association to address his work grievances. It is incumbent on the country to ensure that the Defence Force “spirit” is not neglected by politicians listening favourably to bureaucrats.

There cannot be two seeds for a single fruit called truth. To bury grief and to pug the mistrust deficit, there is a need to cheer up by sowing a “participatory seed” in the Defence Ministry for a better Civil-Uniform solidarity. “Discipline” in the army must get modernised first. An army with a modern mind shall emerge more strong. Command in the Defence Forces is controlled not by a salary but by a commitment to the country to safeguard its sovereignty. Absolute faith and trust in the chain of command makes the fighting forces unique. This “do-or-die-never-ask-why” spirit of a soldier appears to be misused by the “babus” to retain their superiority A society grows wise when honest boys plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in. Shade today is getting more valuable then fruits as a safe resource for future generations to use.

Budget, loans, silent taxes, rising prices, squeezed pockets-Who Gains ?

Rakesh Manchanda

(Analysis of Budget Tax& Fiscal Deficit effect on majority)

Medieval India folk tales reminds us about the impact of the good governance process called tax collection. King`s soldiers should be as silent as a bee collecting honey from the flower and should not disturb and hurt the public was the ancient India Governance message. Today the silent impact of indirect taxes, high prices and micro finance loans together leads farmers and consumers towards suicides. Nation has to carry forward the choice less baggage of lakhs of farmers suicide. It is a matter of common sense that due to unpredictable market it is difficult for a farmer rather in comparison to a city entrepreneur to pay back his loan without market support for his capacity. Recently, TV channels displayed a city labour hand chopped off as he was unable to pay a loan of Rs.300/- to the local lender.

In ancient days, a loan seeker used to avail the opportunity of advance money called loan by producing more wealth in a period of time and then used to return the loan safely. A clear transparent connect between the saver, lender, borrower and the utiliser of the loan plugged the risk. Today government takes a risk and loan from the Public savings- with a business sense to utilise this money in making more money, more production, more jobs faster then the interest amount. It is a well accepted norm to talk of fiscal deficit as the gap between the income and future expenses of the nation. The fiscal deficit as pointed by few MPs in this year budget has been shown at about Rs. 5,22,000 crore while the tax revenues waved off or gifted as concession by the government stands around a whopping Rs.5,30,000 crore. It appears even the Government is forced to take loan without daring to say no to the Corporate concessions gifted as incentives. Figures shown there could have been a loan free surplus of Rs.800 crore if taxes were to be collected honestly.

Strangely ignoring the familiar Indian references to Kautilya's Arthashastra, the finance minister, in his budget speech, quoted from the Shakespeare's Hamlet."I must be cruel only to be kind"-This Shakespeare quote from ancient European culture is perhaps picked up by FM to motivate the majority in India. To prepare middle class and poor for more sacrifices. Market survival is simple. One shinning-other suffering. It can never deliver the win-win for all. When someone is spending, someone else is gaining. In modern India with indirect `hidden` taxes we find a new way to guide India`s economy tax collection. Since majority have a hand to mouth income the possibility to use direct income tax to squeeze them does not arise. Indirect taxes carefully packed in each and every industrial and agriculture produce helps the law makers to hide behind the retailer and producer of goods and services. Direct Tax collection is unpopular as four crore privileged tax payers in 120 crore largest democracy are expected to use concessions to generate more production and improve the GNP. Here the trick is that corporate rich are interested to give a false bubble growth by not investing in real production but by pumping money in share bazaar ensuring jobless growth. Government continues to give concessions to direct taxes and justify favouring the rich at the cost of the poor. 69 billionaires have an asset value equivalent to one-third of our GDP, while out of the rest of the 121 crore Indians, almost 80 crore struggle to survive on less than Rs.22 a day.

In the past Tax system was simple. Direct taxes at the rate of around 6% in shape of crop was collected and deposited in the temple ware houses. Indirect taxes hidden in the cost of goods as seen today in the industrial/agriculture output was missing. If the tax payers in ancient times resisted they were expected to stop the King`s horse a part of revenue generation politics packed with religious label ritual called Ashvamegha Yaga. If the rain gods were kind enough then the recovery of the tax was cent percent.

In a Governance system which survives on city-slum, town-village and Bharat-India divide let us see the impact of Budget-2012-13.Majority fails to understand the difference of ten times in the direct-indirect taxes direction and recovery. While direct tax collection is pegged at Rs 4,500 crore, indirect taxes would raise Rs 45,940 crores in the current year budget. You need not be a student of Economics to see that indirect taxes are a huge burden on the people, while the low direct tax rates were a relief for the rich. Common Man calculates the risk in survival with his decreasing hard work value vis a vis his standard of living. In India when the price rises every month it hurts 99% as the money in the pocket as earnings do not match and remain freezed. With no sale of goods in the market, no wage security, no job security and no social security the market recession stands teasing.

Terms like fiscal deficit and subsidy used by policy makers to calibrate and audit the budget do not make sense to majority people who are engaged day and night to earn a better standard of living. The helpless government is trying to hide the dirty poverty picture. Its false claims of decreasing poverty by lowering the Below Poverty Line limit is shameful. What the policy makers forget is that the financial crisis can only be saved by raising the standard of living. Better purchasing power of the people as market crisis `savers` is the only way out.

Policies in past were made as complimentary to environment and ecology. No feudal king in the past had ever dared to sell forest, ordinary well/stream water or river water including our holy Ganga. Silence of ancient tax collection is compared with the Sun silently converting the water to vapour but the rain clouds with thunder and rain supporting greenery must show that the money taken as tax is put back to the public welfare in the cycle controlled by Rich-poor divide with the participation of the people. Today the discussion is how and why to reduce the fertilizer and diesel subsidy. Much energy is invested to redefine the BPL India to save the Politicians from the shame. The government considers concessions for the rich as an incentive for growth while subsidies for the poor is seen as being negative for growth as it hardly reaches the needs and the system of distribution has many leakages. The petroleum pricing policy is also skewed. The government calculates the prices of petroleum products on the basis of international prices of crude oil. But the fact is imported crude is refined in India and pricing should be based on domestic component inputs.

Why Pranab Da choose to include Hamlet reference in his Budget Presentation ?A tempest in every home: Pranab plays it safe by putting more emphasis on Euro Crisis and more salary cuts and pensions in Europe. In subsequent media interviews the FM was quick to score by saying we are still better then Europe Crisis. Hamlet the prince of Denmark The Tempest ... In his first soliloquy, Hamlet explains that he does not like his mother marrying the next King of Denmark so quickly within a month. It is unfortunate that the helpless Finance Minister is committed like in marriage to protect the interests of few rich corporate and shift the blame to compulsory collaborations of the government with allies. Opposition and the Left was bitter in the Budget critique by demanding, ”Why rob the poor to pay more to rich.” 14 Lakh of industrial and agriculture workers and TUs which went on strike gave the FM their suggestions which were not mentioned in the Budget lay out. Budget fails to see that fall in wages of workers both organised and unorganized engaged in production investments which means less purchasing power in the pockets of millions.

PM says the finance minister had to bite the bullet, but it seems he has bought the used empty bullets and is unable to learn from the Euro crisis.

A Red Rose and the Cactus !

R.D. Bhardwaj

One beautiful spring day, a red rose blossomed in a forest. Many kinds of trees and plants had also grown there. As the rose looked around, a pine tree nearby said, "What a beautiful flower ! I wish, I was as beautiful and lovely like the red rose !" Another tree said, "Dear pine, do not be sad, we can not have everything, moreover, nobody is perfect ........"

The rose held its head high and remarked, "It seems that I am the most beautiful plant in the entire forest." A sunflower raised its yellow head and asked, "Why do you say that ? In this forest there are many beautiful birds, plants and trees. You are just one of them." But the red rose replied, "I observe that everyone is looking at me and admiring me in appreciation........" Then the rose looked at a cactus and said, "Look at that ugly plant, it is full of nasty and ugly thorns !" The pine tree said, "Red rose, what kind of talk is this ? Who can say - what is the real beauty ? You have thorns too. Moreover, I think, you have not heard great writers and scholars admitting a fact that beauty is, in fact, skin deep ........ What looks at the surface level, may not be as true and lovely from the inner side ......"

The proud red rose looked angrily at the pine and said, "I thought, you had a good taste and sense of recognition ! But, you do not know what the beauty is at all. You cannot compare my thorns to that of the cactus......." "What a proud flower!", thought the tree and it started looking in different direction. The rose tried to move its roots away from the cactus, but it could not. As the days passed, the red rose would look at the cactus and say some derogatory things, like : This plant is useless ? How sorry I am to have a neighbour like him .........."

The cactus never got upset and he even tried to advise the rose, saying, "Every thing in this world has its own beauty and credentials & flaws ........ Secondly, always remember that God does not create any form of life without a purpose."

Spring passed by in a couple of weeks, and the weather started becoming warmer. Life became difficult in the forest, as the plants and animals needed water to survive, but there was no sign of rains. The red rose began to fade and wilt, as its delicate petals could not bear the brunt of heating weather, which was making the lives of delicate things miserable. One day, the rose saw some sparrows stick their beaks into the cactus and then fly away, quite refreshed and enlivened. This was puzzling, and the red rose asked the pine tree, as to what those birds were doing.

The pine tree explained that the birds got some water from the cactus. "Does it not hurt when they make holes with their piercing beaks ?" asked the rose.

"Yes, it certainly hurts; but the cactus does not like to see any birds suffering from thirst. Moreover, it is pleased when someone visits him and shares his or her problems with him, and the cactus helps him the way he can !" replied the pine. The rose was flabbergasted with its wide open eyes in astonishment, and said, "The cactus has water ?"

"Yes ! You don't know, the think broad and fluffy and stuffy leaves of cactus store a lot of water when it is available in plenty and uses it during long and tiring and encumbersome summers; just as some other animals like rats, camels and giraffes also do. And yes, if you need, you can also borrow water from him, if it does not hurt your ego. And also remember, it is better to kill your ego rather than dying of thirst ........ The sparrow can help you in bringing water for you if you just ask the cactus for help. I am sure; he will not disappoint you ......."

The red rose felt ashamed over its past behaviour and bad insulting words, which it had uttered previously against the cactus. But then, finally, better sense prevailed upon him and his immediate need for life providing water compelled him to ask for some help from the cactus. However, the cactus was pleased to fulfill the immediate need of his neighbour and a kind hearted sparrow filled her beak with water taken from the cactus plant and sprinkled it over rose's roots and delicate & withering / fading petals. Soon, the rose started gaining new lease of life and it looked at its benefactor neighbour - the Cactus plant, in a thanks giving posture.

MORAL OF THE STORY : Never judge anyone by their appearances alone. Beautiful people can be proud enough to break other's hearts, whereas, simple looking people often extend a helping hand to others, particularly, at the time of their adversity. Prosperity makes friends and adversity tries them. And lastly, God is the supreme artist and He does not create anything without a purpose.

Inadequate supply of water in Pocket-10, Nasirpur, Dwarka

Dear Sir,

We want to draw your kind attention that the around 25-30 flats of Pocket-10, Nasirpur Dwarka are not getting adequate water supply from last 3 years . We get supply sometime for 5-10 minutes in 24 hours or sometime no supply at all.

We are surviving on private tankers.

For the last three years residents are complaining about water problem to area engineer and JE of this pocket. They are not doing any serious efforts in this regard. From last two years, they are saying that tender is passed and work will start soon, but even after two years no work started, no survey conducted nothing in field . The Pipe lines are around 20-25 years old and no maintenance have been done so far.

Our families’ are becoming sick and their daily lives are like hell due to facing this water problem. Some of the adjacent neighbors’ have already sold their flats or change the residence due to water problem. Sometimes we also feel that it is better to sell this house and shift to Illegal colony at least they get Water .

We are questioning the JE, why are you  not listening our problem, and asking to do needful on priority basis.

Your Sincerely

V.Sharma
Resident of DDA flat, Pocket-10,
Nasirpur, Dwarka

We aim to build a broader base of players: Scott O’Donell

 Nilanjan Datta

The wait is nearing its end. Come May and the first Regional Academy in Mumbai will kick-off. In an exclusive interview with www.the-aiff.com, Scott O’Donell, Technical Manager for the Regional and Elite Academies, speaks extensively about the vision of the Academies, the kids who have been scouted and much more. EXCERPTS:

Scott O’Donnell makes a point to kids during the Academy Trials in Delhi

When is the first Regional Academy starting?
The first Regional Academy begins in Navi Mumbai’s Father Agnel School from May 1, 2012. The other Regional Academies would follow suit.

What exactly is the vision of these Academies?
The Academies intend to provide quality coaching to the kids in a professional environment under qualified coaches. The aim stays to build up a broader base of players for the various age-group National Teams. There are plans of having four more Regional Academies in 2013.

The Academies would allow the kids to train in a professional environment on a regular basis, a facility which has eluded them in the past.

You have been scouting talent over the last few months at different venues. What do you make of the boys that you have scouted so far?
There have been trials in various places all over the country. We have identified some very promising players. Also, the co-operation of the State Coaches and the Administrators in the various venues, have been very encouraging indeed.

Would the kids also be attending academic sessions? What is the role of education in the Academies?
Education is just as important as football. The kids have to take it seriously. Obviously, the parents would be sending their kids to the Academies as they have football in mind. But we need to make sure they continue with their studies as well. It’s important to produce good footballers but it’s more important to produce good people.

What more do you prescribe for India as far as Youth Development is concerned?
It’s impossible for the All India Football Federation to take care of the Youth Development Structure in such a vast country like India. We also need the co-operation of the Clubs and the existing Academies in this regard.
