KNOWING GOD THE SCIENTIFIC WAY

Technology of the Gods: The Incredible Sciences of the AncientsEr. Colonel Sabharwal A. K.
EME (ARMT) Bsc,Bsc (Engg) Mech (BHU), AMIEM: 9899477943

We are extremely grateful to SCIENCE and the Scientist for providing us means to know about the unimaginably minute atoms, electrons, the energy in electrons by which they are in motion at tremendous speeds, micro-organism, blood cells, protoplasm, and what not. Similarly science has discovered for us the knowledge about macro, the vast creation, Stars, Planets, Constellations, Solar systems, galaxies, spread over billions of miles, no two heavenly bodies ever-colliding and functioning like a perfect clock, following strictest of rules and discipline. Imagine, for example, the gyro-motion of our earth itself, an undulated sphere of diameter about 13,000 kms, rushing in space, nine crores and thirty lakh miles away from the sun, at a speed of 30 km/sec which is thirty times the speed of bullet fired from a rifle and spinning at an incredible speed of 1670km/hr which is far more than the fastest jet plane invented by man so far. Despite the change and other changes take place, we being at ease as if nothing is happening. We go about leisurely on mother earth in grand ignorance of its tremendous movements in space.

Nobody, so far, has solved the riddle of life, as to what is that which leads to knife and what is death, what is the cause of movements in human beings, animals and plants.

The Paradox of God and the Science of OmniscienceThe question arises “Is everything happening without a cause, is all this creation without the creator”. Scientist has no answer because he cannot prove, he does not accept. Now, how to bridge this gap. One simple assumption which has been amply proved thousand of times through the personal experience of many persons, great Yogis and declared in no uncertain terms in ‘GEETA’, the song celestial, would provide the solution to this most difficult problem. The assumption is a creator and he is in the form of energy of the minutest wave length, beyond the measuring capacity of any instrument ever to be invented by the scientist, is permeating every atom/cell and is life itself, the source of all movement and life in all living beings.

Thou art refuge, thou art worthy of worship, thou art the sustainer of creation and self effulgent, thou art the creator, sustainer and destroyer of the world, thou art very calm and devoid of all thoughts.

As and when the goodness deteriorates to its worst, to uplift it, I incarnet at that time.
To protect the good and to destroy the wicked and establish moral code of conduct, I incarnate from time to time.

Those, who, with full faith, remember me always, I look after them in all respects.

Leaving aside all religions, come to my refuge alone. I will absolve you from the after-effects of all bad deeds, be sure.

In the above Shlokass, Shri Vyas, a realized soul and the author of Mahabharat is saying in no uncertain words, the truth about the incarnation who declares the eternal facts to great Arjun.
All activity around us is due to the interaction of positive and negative energy, positive and negative temperaments and is termed as world-drama . It has been carrying on from time-immemorial and will carry on till eternity.

From Science to God: A Physicist's Journey into the Mystery of ConsciousnessThe Divine Energy can be visualized in the form of light, through perfect concentration of mind, in the forehead, between the two eye-brows. It is through constant, relentless practice that one would have such an extra-ordinary experience, resulting in undisturbable peace of mind and equanimity.

God is an intelligent life force. If we worship it as a personal God, a stage comes when we see it as such as we see motion picture on the screen. Here mind is the screen and personal God is a live picture.

If we worship it as energy, we can perceive it as light in the forehead and in region of the heart.

If the above facts are assumed as correct, it will straightway bridge the gap between the spiritualist and the scientist. The concept provided by the science in understanding the energy clearly, if stretched further, will enable us to understand the ultimate, the Divine Energy, God himself.

The question arises, so what if we understand Divine Energy and its attributes. The matchless advantage is that if we tune into that energy, we will have best of attributes, wonderful confidence, sereneness and happiness, which will give us best of wordily satisfaction and the end will be without suffering which, otherwise, everyone has to undergo and is mortally afraid of it. I have a personal experience of the effect of tuning into this Divine Energy and can explain the same to any one who is really interested in knowing the same. It surely requires spiritual orientation and faith to be able to understand it well and benefit from it.

The Elders and Their Advice

Pt. Shriram Sharma Acharya

Many times the elders insist that children should do this and do that, but such adamant expectation is against all appropriateness, against religion and duty. Under the situation,we have to choose between the elders’ advice on one hand and what is right for us, on the other hand. On facing such a dilemma, preference is always to be given to the religion, to the right and to our duty. A father wants to employ his children in his own trade, but the talent and aptitude of the children make them comfortable in quite another direction. Is it proper to sacrifice children’s ambitions just due to predominance of the elders’ systems? Had that been the trend, then almost all great men of the world would have been miserable persons obediently running their trivial ancestral businesses.

There is no scarcity of wise old men in this world. Their experience and knowledge provide guidance to the new generations for future, hence importance of their services can not be overlooked. To care for their comfort, their teaching and their instructions is considered our duty, and surely we have to do that. Not only full attention has to be paid to their physical happiness and comforts, but if any of their suggestions or orders are impractical, we should not respond in an insulting tone. Keeping silence in such situation saves us from any clash on the spot.

In the dilemma of choice between the appropriate and the orders of the aged, importance has to be given to religion and duty. The aged, no doubt, are superior, but religion and duty are even supreme. Instructions of elders should be followed, but prudence should prevail even before that. The appropriate statement even if from a child’s mouth is more important than an unfair statement from an aged man. Growth in knowledge is greater than the growth in age. Age is surly important, but not more important than prudence and wisdom. We may follow instructions of aged, may even try to make them happy and satisfied by all means, but when they ask to do something unjust, irrelevant and unfair, we need not be prepared to fulfill that. The respect to age is given due to knowledge, wisdom, religion and vision. If these attributes are missing, the person is simply an old man and not a grown up mature elder. We must follow knowledgeable matured elders, but not necessary that any imprudent old man can lead us just due to white hair.

‘We Care’ Film festival concludes

A three-day film festival on disability titled “We Care” concluded at Apeejay Campus, Dwarka on Thursday organized by the NGO, Brotherhood. The festival ended with the message “dignity and justice for all of us” in an attempt to sensitize the students and the society at large about the issue of disability.  The films showcased at the festival conveyed the message ‘physical disability is no longer a challenge and that the only disability is our attitude.’

Many award winning national and international films were showcased in the festival which brought out the real purpose of the festival by highlighting the issues properly. For instance, Bilal relates to the interaction of 5 year old kid whose parents are blind. Similarly, Still Standing speaks volumes about the self-determination of a bed-ridden disabled person and how he motivates other disabled persons to overcome their inhibitions and face the challenges of life. Basket Bronx portrays the dreams of a kid, who has disability in one leg, and wants to play basketball as his idols.

“We are screening films that have relevance and appeal to the students so that we are able to bring in attitudinal change among them”, remarked Prof. Ashok Ogra, Director of the Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication.
“The festival is full of inspirational films such as Three of Us, Departure Lounge and many others, and all giving the message that disability needs understanding and not pity or sympathy”, says Satish Kapoor of Brotherhood. We want to reach out to as many people as possible through the medium of films, he further remarked.

Apart from the staffs and students of Apeejay School of Management and Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication, the event was witnessed by the students of several institutes from Delhi & National Capital Region. Among the eminent attendees of the event were Ms. Deepa Malik, First Sports Woman to represent the country at International level in Disability Category; Ms. P.N. The Dettol HABIT Study

Prembabu Sharma

The latest international Dettol HABIT Study (Hygiene:Attitudes, Behaviour, Insight and Traits) revealed that across the globe conscientious and careful personality types experience 10% fewer colds and diarrhoea than others and may be more likely to practise better personal and domestic hygiene habits. In addition the study, which was carried out in 12 countries around the world including India, found that people who have good manners have better personal hygiene and are almost two and a half times more likely to have good health with low levels of colds and diarrhoea.

In India unlike other 12 participating countries gender has no bearing on personal and household hygiene with men and women equally as likely to engage in good hygiene practices. Households with children and elderly people in the family have better hygiene and thus are healthier. It is estimated that the odds of reporting good household hygiene are 1.7 times higher among tidy people.

These results increase awareness of the key factors that influence different hygienebehaviours and highlight the importance of good hygiene (such as effective hand washing and household cleaning) and good manners (such as covering your mouth when sneezing or coughing) in breaking the chain of infection.

Releasing the report; Mr. Chander Mohan Sethi, Regional Director – South Asia, Chairman and Managing Director Reckitt Benckiser (India) Ltd said, “Dettol is considered as the gold standard in germ protection and being a leader in the hygiene and health care, we at Dettol have a moral responsibility of educating public masses on correct hygiene practices. This year the study clearly indicates that social norms are associated with preference for anti-germ soap and education has turned out to be the strongest determinant of healthy soap usage in India; the odds of using anti-germ soap are three times higher among more educated people. The outcome has definitely given us an impetus to continue Dettol’s the journey of spreading awareness about better health and hygiene with renewed vigour and zeal.”

Previous studies have shown that intensive hygiene education plus the regular use of disinfectants can significantly reduce the risk of illness among children. These new findings from the Dettol HABIT study further emphasise how improved hygiene behaviour can effectively stop the spread of germs and protect health.”

Professor John Oxford, Chairman of the Hygiene Council and Professor of Virology at Barts and The London School of Dentistry commented, “Understanding what drives hygiene behaviour is very valuable. The study uncovered characteristics and traits which are associated with good hygiene and health outcomes such as conscientiousness and practicing hygiene automatically or routinely. We want people to recognize where they may be falling down and take action to make hygiene a habit. Teach your children good manners and build hygiene into your everyday routine.”

The study also showed that tidy/orderly individuals are more hygienic than messy/chaotic people, women and older people tend to be more hygienic than men and younger people and that homemakers display the highest levels of personal and household hygiene whilst students and office workers display the worst. Levels of personal and household hygiene were highest when hygiene habits were undertaken automatically or as part of everyday routine and for those who are aware of the threat of germs. In addition, people who have heard of anti-germl soap are significantly more likely to have better personal hygiene habits.

Dr. Narendra Saini, Global Hygiene Council India Representative commented “According to the HABIT study 2011 by the Global Hygiene Council it is interesting to learn is that personal hygiene and household hygiene is an indispensable part of our social norms. These behaviour patterns get passed on from one generation to another. These ‘manners’ have a positive association with good health. The odds of reporting good infectious health are three times higher among those with good manners.

Celebration of Navratri

Navratri or Navratra iteslf means nine days. Its the festival of worshipping Goddess Durga Mata in her nine swarups. Each day of Navatri represents one of the following nine swarups of Durga Mata.

Day 1 - Mata Shailputri
"Shail" means mountains and "putri" means daughter. Ma Shailputri means daughter of mountains and this swarup refers to Goddess Parvati who was the Daughter of King Himavan

(the King of the mountains). Ma Shailputri is depicted with two hands, one with a trident and the other with a lotus. She is seated upon a bull. She is believed to be an embodiment of the power of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. In her previous incarnation, Shailputri is believed to be Sati, the daughter of Daksha and the wife of Lord Shiva. Once Daksha had organized a big Yagna and did not invite Shiva. But Sati being obstinate, reached there. Thereupon Daksha insulted Shiva. Sati could not tolerate the insult of husband and burnt herself in the fire of Yagna. In other birth she became the daughter of Himavan, the king of the Himalayas in the name of Parvati - Hemvati and got married with Shiva once again. Mata Shailputri or Ma Parvati can be worshipped at any temple of Shivji where her deity is always present next to her consort God Shiva.

Day 2 - Mata Brahmacharini

The second Durga Shakti is Brahamcharini. Brahma that is who observes penance(tapa) and good conduct. She is depicted with prayer beads in her right hand and Kamandal in left hand. Legend states that in a previous birth she was Parvati / Hemavati the daughter of Himvan. Once when she was busy in games with her friends, Naradaji came to see her and on reading her hand/palm-lines Narad Muni stated that, "You will get married with a naked-terrible 'Bhole baba' who was with you in the form of Sati, the daughter of Daksh in previous birth. But now you have to perform penance for him." There upon Parvati told her mother Menaka that she would marry none except Shambhu, otherwise she would remain unmarried. Saying this she went to observe penance. That is why her name is famous as tapacharini - Brahmacharini. From that time her name Uma also became familiar.

‘Brahma’ here refers to the meditative aspect of Brahmacharini and is always depicted as pious women or Sannyasin. She is also worshipped as goddess Tara and is associated with the pious form of Goddess Shakti.
