SOME IMPORTANT NEWS ON FIGHTING CORRUPTION BY THE GOVT.

M K Gupta,
Free Lance Journalist

1.     Corruption is noticed only after one leaves Party
In Andhra Pradesh, the Enforcement Directorate registered a case against YSR Congress President and member of Parliament Mr.Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as part of enquiry into his alleged disproportionate assets.
The ED officials registered Enforcement Case Information Report based on the FIR already filed by the CBI and also registered case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

Meanwhile, the
CBI’s enquiry into Jagnamohan Reddy’s assets as per High Court’s order is underway and CBI officials are interrogating heads of several companies who allegedly pumped money into Jagan’s firms.
CBI’s Joint Director Lakshmi Narayana met state government chief secretary S.V. Prasad on Tuesday and requested him to provide necessary documents from eight departments including Revenue and IT to expedite the enquiry.

2.     MOVE TO BRING BCCI AND OTHER SPORTS BODIES REGULATORY REGIME STALLED AT CABINET
Another story that is prominently covered on the front pages is the Union Cabinet's refusal to approve a draft Sports Bill that aims to bring the sports federations under an independent regulatory regime. "Cabinet shoots down bill to regulate sports bodies" writes the Times of India in its front page lead. The Mail Today reports on its front page "Politicos gang up to defend sports fiefs". This would have brought sports federations under the purview of the RTI Act too.  A spokesman said that there is enough transprancy at BCCI etc. and there is no need to bring it under RTI.  Despite such transprancy, the CWG scam involving alleged siphoning off millions has taken place.
Five Ministers present in the Cabinet Meeting are at the helm of affairs of sport bodies.

3.     OPPOSITION OF APPOINTMENT OF LOK AAYUKT BY GOVERNOR AT GUJRAT
The BJP has extended full support to Lokpal demand raised by Civil Society led by Shri Anna Hazare and the Jan Lokkpar proposed draft envisages appointment of Lok Aayukts in every state.  BJP is opposing the appointment of Lok Aayukt by the Governor on the plea that the Governor does not have such powers under the Constitution and the step is against the Federal Structure.  It has alleged that the person appointment to the post is opposed to the Chief Minister.
The post of Lok Aayukt was vacant since 2003 and as per media report, govt. did not act when the Governor has drawn its attention towards this.

CONSUMER PROTECTION
No compulsion to have lawyer at Consumer Court

The Supreme Court has said that hiring a lawyer is not mandatory for a person to fight his case in a consumer forum and he can plead his case personally or through his agent. A three-judge bench said that the Consumer Protection Act mentioned clearly that a person can plead his case through his agent and it will be against the consumer to force him to hire the services of an advocate for his case. The court turned down the plea of Bar Council of India which pleaded that only advocates should be allowed to appear before a consumer forum.

With this, the requirement of an advocate in Information Commissions has been nipped in the bud too. .

How to Develop Motivation and Confidence in Your Child

Geeta

It is important that motivation and confidence are installed in your child because they are the basis of their self esteem. Children need to be motivated and supported by their parents so that when they grow up, they are able to make the right decisions. It's hard to teach your children things like motivation and confidence, however, you can teach your child how to be self motivated and confident. Self motivated and confident children grow up to be self motivated confident adults. Coming down to the level of our children and making their opinion count: Assuming the same level/status with your children makes it possible for parents to see things from the perspective of the child/children and when this is done well, the child will have every reason on earth to be motivated. A perfect way of coming down to the level of your children is to make their opinion count in virtually every thing (you may subtly discard their opinion later).

Intrinsic Motivation at Work: Building Energy and CommitmentOther ways of coming down to the level of your children are:
sharing food with them,
sharing the same bed with them at night,
participating in some of their "stupid" games,
pretending you understand their language
(especially when they are still learning to talk)

Talk and listen. This lets them explore and revisit their ideas, and develop self-awareness. Conversations also involve complex and varied interaction skills, thought processing and language structures.

Making Love the motive of our action towards our children: Bring them up with love, care and support. Another thing mention here is that a little gift now and then (not every time so that it does not become an unhealthy culture) helps to show the child that you care and you never can tell how far this will take the child as far as motivation is concerned.

Create a print-rich environment. Have books and reading and writing material within reach. Also other print material- calendars, notices, brochures.
Motivation in EducationRead to them. Start with turning pages, talking about pictures and going on to reading the story and talking about it. Model reading for pleasure and information.

Write. Start with pre-writing - handwork to develop fine motor control, such as drawing, arts and crafts, cutting, threading, and making things. Scribe for your child as he talks, model writing for pleasure and for specific use (making a shopping list, for instance). Let him help you write.

Giving sincere and open appreciation: Research has shown that children are the most vulnerable set of people on this planet earth. They tend to live more on the immediate and this ultimately become s a great determining factor in their future life. If you must flatter them, make sure it look so real that even you may get to the point of doubting the fact that it is all flattery.

Leverage on other peoples' mistakes: In as much as it is not good trying to take advantage of other peoples' situation, we need to let our children know what led to particular predicament of some people in our neighbourhood. For example, telling them that this person is suffering today because, he/she failed to do "this or that" in the past.
You can also get your children motivated by making them see the future for themselves, make them envisage what the future will look like.

Enough is Enough- Indian Cricket Team can gain No.1 slot again.

S S Dogra
India won the world cup in 1983, under the captainship of great all
rounder Kapil Dev. But just after the world cup victory, the Indian
cricket team faced 3-0 in Tests and 5-0 defeats in ODI by West India. After this defeat , several players like Mohinder Amarnath, Roger Binny, Madan Lal, Yashpal Sharma, Balvinder Singh Sandhu were taken out although they were the Heros of Indian Victory in World cup,1983.

Now, the history is repeated, on 2nd April,2011 India won the World Cricket Cup again. Recently, India tasted the shameful defeat of 4-0 by England team. It’s a right time to drag out players like VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Harbhajan Singh, Zahir Khan from Indian squad. Moreover, they all are not fully physically fit and not giving 100 per cent performance in the crucial matches. So why we are giving more chances to them.

Now, we should give the opportunity to upcoming talent like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Pragyan Ojha who may prove their worth and become more useful players for the future then the latter ones. The media and cricket pandit raised their figures about Sachin’s retirement, we should accept that He is an exceptional cricketer and really God of Cricket. It is he who will decide his retirement. Let him enjoy the game. The Indian selectors should come forward and select the young and talented players.

Only then Indian Cricket Team can gain No.1 slot again.

NOT THE PARLIAMENT BUT THE CONSTITUTION IS SUPREME

M. K. Gupta

Of late, a myth has been created that the Parliament is Supreme. In India, it is not the Parliament which is supreme but the Constitution is supreme.  The Constitution states that “we the people of India…….. and the word Parliament comes afterwards. We are a democratic country and the Members of Parliament are our representatives as we do not have direct democracy.  The direct democracy is not possible because of the size of our population and number of citizens who have attainted the age of maturity.  We have a written Constitution and in that, there is checks and balances between Executive, Parliament, Office of the President and the Judiciary.

In England the Parliament is Supreme where no law passed by it can be challenged. If the Parliament states day time as night or vice versa, that is the final word but in India, laws framed by the Parliament or State Assemblies can be challenged before the Judiciary if they violate the Constitution.  The USA has a written Constitution with certain check and balances and there too, the Constitution is Supreme.  The President Richard Nixon was removed by the judiciary for his role in the Watergate and the Parliament (the Senate and Congress had not removed him.  Senate and Congress are the upper and lower Houses in The USA). The USA has a Presidential form of Govt. while India has the Prime Minister as the Executive Head of the Government. In India, the Judiciary has declared many laws as ultra vires of the Constitution and every laws passed by the Parliament are subject to judicial review.

Moreover, the people are Supreme who have elected their representatives and their representatives should act in accordance to the wishes of the electorates.  We so far do not have the right to recall but if the representatives fail on the test of their electorate who are, in fact, their master, they can be replaced in the next election.

IN A NUTSHELL, INSTEAD OF PARLIAMENT, THE CONSTITUTION IS SUPREME.

INDIAN IDEA OF FREEDOM

DISCOVER THE IDEA OF INDIA WITH

E-Publisher of

EBOOKS  EARTICLES PHOTOS and other digital content on INDIA

eBook by
DENNIS DALTON

This eBook is concerned with the development of the idea of freedom in modern India, particularly in the political and social thought of four major Indian writers, Swami Vivekananda, Aurobindo Ghose, Gandhi, and Rabindranath Tagore. Three major areas of discussion may be distinguished here.

First, there is a consideration of the common ground on which these four thinkers stand. It is argued that they comprise a "school" of modern Indian thought, both because of the purpose that they share, and the fundamental principles on which they all agree. Chief among these principles is that concerning the nature of freedom. Two broad forms of freedom are distinguished: "external" (political and social), and "internal" (moral and spiritual). These two forms are seen as complementary; as corresponding qualities which must both be achieved for freedom to be wholly realised.

Second, the background of the school's thought is briefly discussed. Certain key themes in the writings of prominent nineteenth-century Indian figures are examined, to suggest the nature of the climate of opinion out of which Vivekananda's conception of freedom emerged.

Finally, the greater part of the eBook is devoted to an analysis of precisely what these four men thought about freedom, and how one of them, Gandhi, carried on experiments with his ideas in Indian society and politics. It is argued that while all the members of this school agree on fundamental issues, each made a distinctive contribution to the development of the idea of freedom. Vivekananda's contribution arises in the synthesis that he created of various strands of nineteenth-century Indian thought, and which he used in his formulation of a particular conception of freedom. The major aspects of this conception were developed by the other thinkers, each adding new dimensions.

How to tackle irrational situation?

Dr.C.M.Bhagat
Director Bhagat Hospitals

I have often heard my colleague Dr Kamal Parwal say – Every body has his own quota of irrationality. Today I thought I will study a little more about this powerful word which we use very often to snub our fellows –or to dominate in talks- don’t be irrational . Though the term loosely used at times has very deep meaning but one thing for sure. We are all irrational at times in our life- howsoever logical we may claim to be.

What is the dictionary meaning of irrational & irrationality? A person is irrational when he unable to think clearly & logically-it is an adjective. In other words when the person lacks the usual understanding & coherence prevalent in relation to current time place & situation.

Irrational behavior- is said when the person reacts or becomes angry about a situation which has not occurred as yet.

Irrational Behavior-
· Expressing emotions in excess
· Maintain unrealistic expectation.
· Engaging in irresponsible conduct etc, etc.

Why a person is irrational
Difference in perceived and actual interest.

* Abnormal conditions such as sudden death or catastrophe- leading to intense emotional outburst.
* Fear / Subconscious fear
* Flawed reasoning which may stem from wrong inputs, intoxication , Personality or attitude at times
affected by past experience . – all leading to failure to comprehend .
* Hidden interests may be in unconscious mind or at times obvious . My own observation-financial gains
are a major factor-Lakshmi Ji Mahan Hein. This is called self service bias.
* Inability to comprehend . the consequences . Lack of knowledge or experience.
* Split personality.
* Stress- becomes an additional function
* Awkward situation or Ego problem.
* Intoxication
* Peers imbibe irrational thoughts & ideas. ( Mahants /Preachers/ Maulvi )

“ A boss is always rational- employees always agree during meeting but may disagree afterwards”

How to deal with irrational people or what is distorted thoughts & behavior

- First try to understand the situation- how much it affects you & how serious the person is. Can you get away by simply ignoring the person e.g. road rage.

- Quickly try to comprehend the reason behind it. But don’t be biased.

- Try to make your own attitude flexible. Check your daily thinking, assumptions & bottom line beliefs. Don’t get bogged down by your own inflexible attitude & perceptions.

- In case of serious threat don’t hesitate to arm yourself legally.

- Stay calm & buy time. Everything passes away. Don’t get pulled into the storm rather ride out of it. ( cool cat)

- Take the help of experienced people or learn from your own past experience. Write the event on a diary or paper- it will help you in understanding either way.

- Have a support system. People in the support system should help you steer to reality. They should not contaminate any of your own irrational ideas. They should be supportive, neutral & refusing to take sides and at the same time wise people of standing. They should give opinion but should never insist on following a particular path. Beware of self declared leaders who always keep on boasting about their past deeds. Liaison is a new upcoming self employment- beware of liaison agents.

- If you become stressful because of some body action don’t hesitate to take help whether of
   psychologist, social worker or priest.

- Humor therapy is good for stressful conditions- remember that adv. –“ accident ho gaya balle –balle”. Watching a cartoon film of your choice is really fun. I know of a Sr. Air commodore who insists on watching TOM & JEERY everyday in the evening.

- Prayer is one of the most effective way of handling irrational behavior—provided you have faith & you
   give it time.
- By your calm behavior try to turn tide in your favour. Try to understand what provoked him.

-Take a deep breath

Remember irrational behavior is like a bait -if you take it you are trapped. If you expect a disturbed person to understand your logic you will end up beating your head against the wall. Don’t expect a person to understand logic in that state. Taking time out is a good idea. Staying in that disordered situation may not be a good idea as it may affect your own health.

SALMAN KHAN SMITTEN BY AZMAT HUSSAIN

Prembabu Sharma

Zee TV’s lucky mascot Salman returns on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs & dotes on Azmat

The reality shows on Zee TV might not be star studded but superstar Salman Khan has always been a permanent fixture in them. And everytime he comes, he ensures that he leaves everyone wanting for much more! This time, he came on the sets of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs to promote his upcoming Eid release Bodyguard. This is Salman’s eighth appearance on a Zee TV reality show as he believes every appearance on a Zee TV show has brought him luck and all his movies promoted on the channel have broken records in the box office.

If there was one Li’l Champs who won Salman Khan’s heart right from the very beginning, it was li’l wonder from Jaipur, Azmat Hussain. From the minute Salman entered the stage, he had all eyes only on Azmat! The actor kept hugging & chatting away with Azmat and kept looking at the kid as if couldn’t believe that he was actually holding the Li’l talented champ! He said to Azmat, “My mom (Salma Khan) is a huge fan of Azmat. She does not miss a single episode of Li’l Champs and I’m sure she’ll be super happy to see me here when the episode comes on air. You are a fabulous singer; just make sure success does not reach your head in the years to come and be grounded always….” The contestants saw a very different side to Salman as he shared tips on handling success and being true to oneself! In all the masti that is always associated with Salman, viewers will see a rare philosophical side of Bollywood’s No 1 star.

It was endearing to see Salman join Azmat on stage for his performance on the Sufi number, Khwaja Mere Khwaja from the movie Jodha Akbar. The mentors Kailash Kher, Javed Ali and Adnan Sami accompanied Salman and Azmat on stage, sat down cross legged, donned the embroidered headgear worn by Sufi singers and gave a mesmerizing performance.

What was even more special and funny was that during Azmat’s performance, Kailash Kher joined in and decided to sing more than what Azmat had learnt! Azmat immediately waved at Kailash Kher to stop singing and continued with the portion of the song that he knew well….This was caught by Salman and he had a hearty laugh joking at Azmat daring to stop Kailash as he sang…. Salman said, “By stopping Kailash Kher confidently in the middle of your performance proved that you are the king when you take centrestage. At such an early age, only the most talented and confident of the lot can stand up to such measures of stopping the reigning doyennes of the music industry.” By the end of the performance, Salman was absolutely smitten by Azmat.
There were many other memorable moments like when Salman taught Azmat the alphabets, A, B , C, D when the actor was informed that he cannot afford to go to school. Salman offered to help on getting Azmat an education if required…On Azmat’s request, Salman also did a sketch for him impromptu. The superstar could not turn down a ten year old’s request and decided to sketch a portrait of a human face. That definitely became Azmat’s moment of boundless joy as he held the sketch close to his heart.

Don’t miss the Salman Khan special episode where for the first time in the history of all his television appearances, you will see an emotional and practical side of the man who is synonymous as the eternal lover boy in the Hindi movie industry.

Tune into Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs this Saturday, 27th Aug, at 10pm.

Difference between Jan Lokpal and Govt. Lokpal

REJIMON C. K.
President, Dwarka Forum
On  3 Points where diffrence and some people like Aruna Roy and NCPRI version.

1. The ILLOGIC stated.. over 38.76 lacs GOI Employees + PSU 50 Lac + State Govt may be all add up to 1.5 or 2 Crore including political class? Their objection is that such huge number to be under JANLOKPAL will be mammoth task and need separate.. WHAT A JOKE ? The Entire country of 120 crore citizen comes under Supreme Court purview ? It's not the entire 1.5 crore employees are Corrupt, there may be 25-30%. So this logic of Govt and NCPRI have no locustandi.

2. The Citizen Charter: This is an important provision as those who deals in Public Cause and also those who have fed up of getting work or service from Govt and its agencies. Through this there will be clear Jobs and Description of each of those handling Public. The public will find it easy to whom to approach and not like currently one desk to other and one counter to other.. If not timely service or grievance resolved there is provision to penalty just like RTI Act. This is important for 1.2 billion Indian's as COMMON MAN is fed up and frustrated. From Birth Certificate to Death Certificate all have to run pillar to post and then end up pay bribe. The seperation of Public Grievance will be another futile attempt and only will be REHABILIATION of Retired Babus. Look the Public Grievance Commission of Delhi, it has no meaning but a BIG Hole on exchequer. Our RTI have exposed that time and again.

3. Lokayukta: At state level. This is also vital as more than 50% of Union budget is spend by state govt all other rules and act the Parliament pass and applicable to states WHY this is sound against FEDERAL STRUCTURE ?. States like opposition ruled Gujrat even dont have Lokayukta till date, the opposition ruled Karnatka we know the report of Lokayukta. then come to our own Delhi. The CM and Ministers don't agree to Lokayukta and Babus are exempted. This is important we need to have LOKPAL and LOKAYUKTA.

A battle we must not lose

Vishal Sinha, Advocate
M: 9868018565

Forget Anna Hazare. The Jan Lokpal movement can go to hell for all I care. Let us just look at the issues over which the battle between the Government and us citizens is being fought. And then let’s decide where we want to stand, each one of us, on the issue of corruption.

The first question is: Do corruption and bribery hurt you? If they do, do you want a solution? If your answer is yes to both, do you think such a solution lies with an independent authority? Or do you think a corrupt Government can fight corruption on its own, and within its own ranks? If your answer is no to that, then we need to create an independent institution to fight corruption. Right? Well, that’s precisely what Anna is asking for. He is asking for a Lokpal that the Government cannot influence nor manipulate. This is the first battle.

The second battle is over four things. One: Should the Prime Minister come under the purview of the Lokpal? Almost everyone I know thinks he should. A honest Prime Minister wouldn’t care. A dishonest one must be supervised. Or else, we will have cases like Bofors that will never ever be resolved.

Two: Should Members of Parliament come under the Lokpal? I have not met a single person till date who thinks that our MPs are so honest that they need not be supervised. My guess is if a referendum is ever taken, Anna will get a 100% yes to this question, given what people think of our politicians and the standards of probity in public life.

The third question is even more obvious: Do all public servants need to come under the Lokpal? My guess is India’s answer will be yes, yes, yes. Every day, in every area of our life and work, we are constantly harassed, intimidated and extorted by corrupt Government officers. The poorer you are, the worse is the torture. So yes, every public servant, every Government officer must come under the Lokpal.

Question four: Who should give permission to file an FIR against a corrupt judge? If the Lokpal can look into corruption charges against the PM, the MPs and Government servants, isn’t it only logical to expect it to do the same against judges?

The third and final battle is over an even simpler thing: The Citizen’s Charter. Should every Government office have such a Charter which will clearly state which officer will do what work and in how much time? And should an officer who refuses to do his work in time or asks for a bribe to move a file be punished? The Government says a charter is fine but Government servants must not be penalised if they don’t do their work! Anna believes that officers not doing their work in time amounts to corruption and must face the same treatment. Isn’t it rather obvious what India thinks about this? Do we really need a referendum on these simple, basic issues? I seriously doubt it. Every Indian will endorse the idea of a Lokpal as Anna and his team have envisioned it, with the help of thousands of Indians who have contributed online to the process of drafting the bill. Yes, there are genuine fears that we should not create yet another monster out there, who will make life more difficult for us than it already is. But even that has been addressed rather adroitly by Anna’s team. It is a complex process, true but it also ensures that the choice is wisely made. And what if there are charges against the Lokpal? Well, there’s a provision there too. You can go straight to the Supreme Court and seek justice out there. So why are we arguing so much over this Bill? Why is the Government digging its heels in and refusing to listen to us citizens?

Why must Anna go on a hunger strike all over again to press home the point that corruption must be fought back? I guess it’s a question of both ego and fear. No one likes to give up the power they have, and certainly not the Government. In fact, it’s always trying to interfere more and more in our lives, grab more and more authority, more and more space. And fear? Well, I guess we all know the answer to that.
