Good Year for People`s Pressure & Bad for Lokpal Law Makers.

Citizen's Reporter
Rakesh Manchanda

Day-3 of the Loksabha`s Winter session-2011 shall be remembered for a long time. For Rajya Sabha members working overtime and also majority working as spoilt college boys and girls scared of exam preparation and its result. No rules, no time management and no vision as to when to stop the debate and when to get it extended. President of India messages got flashed that Rajya Sabha were free to extend the session as per their will. Congress, RJD and Trinamol are accused by media of Match Fixing. Mamta Banerjee`s Trinamol remains the strange partner of Government Ex-Railway Minister who remained absent in Rail Bhavan in the past. She proves again & again that whenever UPA-2 is failing she wants to project herself without any responsibility. She wants to eat the cake but does not want to brush her teeth daily and improve the collective responsibility.

RJD member Rajniti Prasad pretended to snatch the copy of Lokpal Bill from the minister and tore it before throwing it in the Well of the House. He was demanding that the Bill be withdrawn as this drama was shown by various channels last night. The floor management was shabby although on this day-3 the Dinner was pre-planned and the law making warriors were supposed to lock horns till late night after dinner. Law makers reduced the house with a shouting match having no rules and no law. Before mid-night the it was clear that like Women reservation Bill this Lokpal will be kept in a deep freeze in the chilling cold of Delhi. Noice and shouting emotions must be declared as essential for Law making and debates. In spite of planned `Haala Bol` the house witnessed few best speeches from congress, BJP and CPM.

Less people`s pressure termed as Anna factor and its flip flop splits open two facts: All Congress MPs and UPA-2 allies are exposed as who do not want Corporate, CBI & PM under Lokpal. Federal structure amendments were also discussed at length. Second- Team Anna`s potential, overconfidence and dependence on Media outside Parliament stands exposed. This less pressure outside Parliament has perhaps encouraged congress who tried to get their Weak Bill in a hurry passed that needs as many as 187 holes as amendments to be stitched. The Parliamentary Affairs minister stood with pain at midnight counting these 187 amendments and views. No voting was done on these 187 amendments as done in Lok Sabha. This was planned to protect the clear stand of the Rajya Sabha members. Government has failed seriously to rescue and deliver a strong Bill.

As the late night Results of voting on Day-1-Lokpal in Lok Sabha were pouring in, a friend had send few lines which points the Political services of our Netas as follows :

“Present day political chaos reminds me of what Sahir Ludhiyanvi wrote in 1968 for Bollywood Film Izzat. You can hear Rafi singing it at the link below. Kya Miliye Aise Logon Se, Jinki Fithrath Chupi Rahe, Nakli Chehera Saamne Aaye, Asli Surath Chupi Rahe”.

Politicians must realise that a strong People`s Pressure outside the Parliament is a must. It can help reduce the distance between the people and the Parliament and can evolve better and faster solutions. Now instead of 12 days pressure in August Sansad Session(see my article 12 days pressure published in August-2011 via google). This time Anna pressure was planned for six days(3 days of fast+3 days of Jail Bharo). Unlike OWS Movement going on in West and in Europe the Team Anna till date has failed to see a clear corporate hand behind the condition of 99 % people in India.

Anna Pressure score card on day one was a flop as put by media. People perhaps decided to remain engaged with daily work & television. Survival and combat against corruption appears to be limited to social media, internet and sms engagements. Thanks to people who did not respond to Anna call for protest visit on day-2. Doctors declared that Anna Hazare can damage his kidney if he goes forward with the fast. All this collectively forced the Team Anna to call of the fast and the subsequent Jail Bharo.

Crowds or no crowds the law makers and the elected Nagar Sevaks must keep the law making process consultative, transparent & finish it in time.Parliamentarians use noise and mob tactics inside Parliament when they decide not to deliver laws or delay laws. No Crowds turnover in Mumbai and Delhi shows that people are supreme. Team Anna failed to repeat the magic of August in Delhi now in Mumbai. People in no mood of `Protest Tourism` cannot collect in one place as and whenever asked for. What Team Anna need to analyse and understand is that that there are no `fixed rules` for common people/middle class to wake up and participate.

This three day Law Making Match should not give a clean Politician certificate to ruling Congress and UPA-2 who took advantage of No Crowd and No Pressure and rejected 187 amendments making Lok Pal weak. Instead of extending Parliament for next day they succeeded in Killing the Bill as they ran out of time, ideas and patience. If congress took pains to accept amendments in Lok Sabha why is it fielding excuses that 187 amendments could be thrashed out constructively by putting them to Vote. Rajya Sabha finally said political goodbye to India-2011singing lullaby for Lokpal to sleep.

15 Ways to Reduce Or Stop Drinking

Beware of Alcoholic Drinks during New Year

Dr K K Aggarwal

Padma Shri and Dr B C Roy National Awardee
President, Heart Care Foundation of India

If you are dependent on alcohol, or have other medical or mental health problems you should stop drinking completely. Reduction of heavy drinking may be a more acceptable goal for some patients who lack readiness to quit drinking.

The frequency of heavy drinking (more than five drinks per day for men and four for women) has the highest correlation with negative life consequences such as impaired driving, interpersonal problems, and injuries.

You need to cut down if in the past one year you have taken one or more times more than 5 drinks in a day (4 drinks for women). This positive response to a single question “How many times in the past year have you had X or more drinks in a day?”, where X is 5 for men and 4 for women, is recommended for use by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The sensitivity and specificity of this question is 81.8 and 79.3 percent, respectively.

One can also know the dependence of alcohol by using the CAGE questionnaire.
1. Have you ever felt the need to Cut down on drinking?
2. Have you ever felt Annoyed by criticism of your drinking?
3. Have you ever had Guilty feelings about your drinking?
4. Do you ever take a morning Eye opener (a drink first thing in the morning to steady your nerves or get rid of a hangover)?

One positive response to any question suggests need for closer assessment; two positive responses are seen in the majority of patients with alcoholism. Two positive response has a sensitivity of 77 percent and specificity of 80 percent in patients with alcohol dependence. Over 80 percent of nonalcoholic patients have a negative response to all four questions and virtually none has a positive response to more than two questions.

National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism suggests the following for stopping or reducing alcohol:
1. Put it in writing why you want to reduce or stop: Write what you want to achieve for example will feel healthier; will sleep better, will improve my relationships.
2. Write confessions: learn and practice various confession exercises. This will help you take care of inner guilt which may be the precipitating factors.
3. Set a drinking limit: Those who are cutting back should set a limit as per your health. Most healthy people should limit to less than 40 ml in one hour, 80 ml in one day and less than 240 ml in a week. Women should take less than half of this amount.
4. Keep a diary of your drinking. For initial 3-4 weeks, keep track of every drink. Note the situations you are most likely to drink. Give each situation rating out of ten. Try avoiding those situations for the next few weeks.
5. Don’t keep alcohol within your reach. Remove alcohol from your living place. This can help limit drinking.
6. Eat your drink. Drinking slowly can help. Sip and do not gulp. Sip soda, water, or juice after each drink. This is called Mindfulness drinking. Be aware of your drinking will cut it down. If your mind is not in drinking you will drink more.
7. Never drink on an empty stomach.
8. Keep a weekly one or two spiritual fast. This will allow alcohol-free days. Decide not to drink a day or two each week.
9. Observe spiritual retreats: Observing spiritual retreats (Navratri by Hindus, Ramazan by Muslims, and Easter by Christians) with no drinking can help. Or try abstaining for a week or a month to see your commitment to not drinking.
10. Become a tortoise: Learn to withdraw yourself from all stimuli which can force you to drink.
11. Watch for peer pressure. Learn to say no. Do not drink just because others are, and you shouldn’t feel obligated to accept every drink you’re offered. Stay away from people who encourage you to drink.
12. Keep busy. Take a walk, play sports, go out to eat, or catch a movie. When you’re at home, pick up a new hobby or revisit an old one. Painting, board games, playing a musical instrument, woodworking — these and other activities are great alternatives to drinking.
13. Ask for support. Let friends and family members know that you need their support.
14. Guard against triggers. Stay away from people and places that make you want to drink. In Yoga it is called Pratahyara and means staying away from the external stimuli. Lust cannot be removed by staying in a lustful atmosphere.
15. Be persistent. Most people who successfully cut down or stop drinking altogether do so only after several attempts.

क्या कहते टीवी स्टार .......Christmas & New Year’s Eve

Prembabu Sharma

As we say goodbye to the year gone by and prepare to usher in the New Year, let us see what are favourite Zee TV stars are going to be up to this Christmas & New Year’s Eve.

Ankita Lokhande (Archana of Pavitra Rishta)

I usually like to keep my New Year celebrations a private affair, and will be doing just the same this year too. I will be with Sushant, my family and close friends. Or maybe we might go somewhere for a small celebration – just the two of us! We have yet to finalise on something.

Sara Khan (Mona of Ram Milaayi Jodi)
New Year’s eve is always a super busy time of the year. Post my shoot on 31st, I will be going for 2-3 parties, and will be hosting a party for my friends and relatives at my house too. I want to gift myself something really classy, probably a one piece dress with good color combination. I will be shopping for the occasion soon. It has been too long since I have splurged on myself!
Krutika Desai (Bharti of Ram Milaayi Jodi)
This year, Christmas & New Year, are going to be extra special for me as I have my sister and family coming down from Amsterdam. Since my brother- in- law is Dutch, we will be celebrating Christmas in a big way with a fully decorated christmas tree, lights and carol singing. For New Years, we have a wedding in our family home in Gujarat where the entire family from all corners of the globe will be in attendance. So it is a big family reunion that I wouldn't miss for the world!

Puru Chibber (Sachin of Pavitra Rishta)
So far we know that we are shooting on Christmas day for sure so that rules out the possibility of us making any plans on that day. But for New Years I will be in Goa for sure! Have never been to Goa during New Year's and have heard that it is a really good time to be there. Now with my friend having recently moved there, it gives us all the perfect excuse that we have been waiting for!
Rithvik Dhanjani (Arjun of Pavitra Rishta)
Sadly, I think that we will be shooting during Christmas so only if I get any spare time post the shoot that I will be going to a friends place for a Christmas party. But for New Years, I will be finally going home to Dubai to spend time with my family. Due to other commitments, I haven’t been able to bring in the New Year with my family and friends back home so hopefully we won’t be shooting for atleast those 3-4 days so that I can make the trip back home. My friends have even sent me a complete itinerary for the number of days that I am there so it is definitely gonna be a choc-a-bloc holiday and then back to the sets on Jan 1!
Mrinalini Tyagi (Tejaswini of Pavitra Rishta)
No matter how much time I get for New Years, I have made a firm resolve to just relax at home. Whether it is just for a day or 2-3 days, I am going to treat myself to some ‘me’ time and maybe get a few spa treatments done; a manicure-pedicure…something nice and relaxing! After the hectic shoot schedule, I am really looking forward to just relaxing at home. I am not one of those people who has to go out and party the night away…I need my time to rest and rejuvenate.

Sumit Vats (Rishi of Hitler Didi)
I want to start my new year by praying to God. I will visit the Siddhivinayak temple and seek the Almighty’s blessings for 2012. I will pray for good health because if I am in good shape, everything else will follow. I am also planning to buy a new house in Mumbai, and I will begin house hunting on the first day of 2012. What I definitely do not want to do is party! I don’t want to start my New Year with too much of noise and hungama.
Smita Singh (Sunaina Bhabhi of Hitler Didi)

While the rest of the world is out partying, I'll be eating a nice dinner and spending time with friends and family at home. I've realized the perfect place is with your loved ones and your closest friends around the dinner table over a good meal, talking about the past year and the year to come and things you want to change in your life. And I never make it to midnight, ever. I tend to fall asleep before it’s 12!!! (laughs)
Rati Pandey (Indira of Hitler Didi)

I am hoping that I will get some time off to spend New Year’s with my parents this year. While I have not decided what I will be doing exactly, I will probably go out on 31st and party with my friends while 1st will be specially reserved for some quality time with my family. With a shoot schedule that has me shuttling between two cities it does become difficult to spend any time with my near and dear ones.

SOCIAL JURIST OPENS ALL INDIA HELPLINE FOR EWS AMISSIONS IN PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Ashok Agarwal
Advisor, Social Jurist

Social Jurist has opened All India Helpline for facilitating admission of children belonging to Disadvantaged Group and Economically Weaker Sections at entry level class in Unaided Recognized Private Schools in the academic year 2012-13 under 25% quota in terms of Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009. Unaided Schools in most of the States and Union Territories have not at all implemented this provision of RTE Act, 2009 and unfortunately, the respective governments have not taken any action against the erring schools. It seems that the governments are not interested in implementing this provision though they are duty bound to implement the same. It is needless to say that the RTE Act, 2009 has come into force from April 01, 2010.

It is strongly felt that the Social Activists, NGOs, Civil Society Bodies, Parents Bodies, Professions including lawyers etc have a role in getting this provision implemented. As lawyers associated with the Social Jurist have Delhi Experience in regards to EWS admissions in unaided schools on public lands since 2004-05 and onwards, they are willing to share their experiences with rest of the people and to help them to get the RTE Act provision implemented with full force. Any person from any part of the country can take totally free legal assistance through Helpline Nos. 9868529459, 8826456565 between 10 am and 5 pm on all days except Sundays.

Drama in Rajya Sabha

Citizen's Reporter

Yashwant Prakash

They shouted at top of their voices about supremacy of the Parliament !!!
On midnight of 29th Dec we all witnessed the kind of parliament we have.
I feel ashamed of being governed by such a parliament.

I feel agitated that our so called representatives are completely insensitive to the need of the people who sent them to the parliament and need of the country.

Chairman Rajya Sabha allowed the debates and speeches to linger on endlessly to waste time so that the debates were completed just before midnight and there was no time left for the voting. He adjourned the Rajyasabha despite majority of the house willing to sit through and take on the passage of bill. (Then they say that Loksabha Speaker and Rajyasabha chairman are apolitical !!!)

Congress government tried to fool the nation by bringing in the Lokpal Bill but making it ineffective by keeping the control over selection and dismissal of Lokpal, control over investigations and making the redress against corruption process as complicated and lengthy as posible.

BJP played a clever game by deciding to support the TMC in asking for removal of provision of Lokayukta from the bill . They knew that government will not be able to accept that having boasted so much about commitment to the sense of house resolution.

TMC decided to oppose the government by deciding to bring amendment to remove all clauses concerning appointing Lokayuktas in states. (Though every one knows that most of the corruption is in states as and most of India lives in states).
RJD decided to create ruckus and halt the proceeding by tearing the government reply.
Ram Vilas Paswan decided to reject to Idea of Lokpal itself through his senseless speech.

THEY TELL US THAT THE PARLIAMENT IS SUPREME. THEREFORE WE HAVE TO SUBMIT TO THE LOOTING OF COUNTRY BY PEOPLE IN POWER AND THE GOVERNMENT MACHINERY.

We will not accept this nonsense. The country is ours. The country belongs to our children. We will not allow a few handfuls of insensitive, selfish people to loot our country and weaken her.

We are the country of brave hearts. Our decency and respect for the democratic means is not to be mistaken as cowardice.

We will rise. We will rise in each family, locality, and community, to fight the corruption thrust upon us.

WATER AND ELECTRICITY FOR DWARKA AREAS – NOW BJP TAKES GOVT. TO TASK

M. K. Gupta
Jt. Secy. & Media Advisor
Dwarka Forum

The state level leaders of the BJP have warned the Govt. that if the problem of water in Dwarka and nearby areas is not solved soon, they will stage a Dharana at Airport. They told that the Dwarka area is now getting only 3 MGD water and govt plans to increase it to 10 MGD more but out of this, 8 MGD will be for the IG Airport. Leaders demanded more water for Palam-Dwarka area and they also lambasted the Delhi Govt. for the shortage of electricity by alleging that the govt. is planning to hike the rates of electricity. Vijendra Gupta, President, Delhi BJP, V.K. Malhotra, leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly, Jagdish Mukhi and Dharam Dev Solanki, both MLA, large number of workers and residents in great number joined the Dharna on Saturday, 24th December at Sector 1, Dwarka.

Paresh Ganatra “The Prankster on sets of Chidiyaghar’’ on SAB TV

Prembabu Sharma

Paresh Ganatra, who essays the character of Ghotak Narayan in Chidiyaghar on SAB TV, is turning out to be the on-set prankster devising something new every week. After the last prank on Saransh Verma, this week Paresh along with Sumit Arora targeted Shilpa Shinde who plays the character of Koel (Paresh’s wife) in the show.

Sumit and Paresh found that their watch and IPod were missing. On the same day Shilpa too lost her gold chain and since she uses her own jewellery on the sets, it was a personal loss. Everyone on the sets was convinced that there was a thief on the sets and Shilpa announced that she was going to file a police complaint about the thefts on the set.

The same evening, to her relief, her gold chain was found but she was still distraught about Paresh and Sumit’s missing belongings. She made the entire unit search for the same and even participated in the search. A little while later, she was informed that Sumit’s and Paresh’s belongings were also found and that too in the same place where her gold chain was found. It was too much of a coincidence for Shilpa and she realized that she had been made the target of a prank.

Paresh, speaking about the prank, said “Shilpa is a smart girl and our attempts to catch her off-guard have always failed. We had to find a way to fool her. So this time while planning a prank on the cast and crew, we saw an opportunity to target Shilpa and changed our plan accordingly. So, apart from the two of us no one else knew anything about it and their reactions were totally genuine which made Shilpa believe everything.”

Sumit Arora, speaking about the prank, said “It was fun doing this. We had actually planned to stretch this for a few more days but, Shilpa caught on to the prank and both of us just could not hold on to our laughter when she confronted us. But her expression when she realized that her chain had gone missing made the whole effort worth it. I must say she is quite a sport and took the whole thing very sportingly.”

Shilpa Shinde, the target of the prank, said “These guys have been trying to pull a prank on me for quite a few days but each time I have figured it out. I actually skipped a heart beat when I realized my chain had gone missing. Their pranks finally get a smile on everyone’s face and all ‘s well that ends well.”

A lot has changed since my debut: Gawli

Nilanjan Datta
Immediately after announcing his retirement from International Football, Mahesh Gawli spoke to www.the-aiff.com about his exploits with Team India. He spoke at length about his tenure with the National squad, the memories, his teammates, the next ‘big’ defenders and what forced him to the decision. Excerpts:

What forces you to this decision?
Football is a demanding sport. I have played at the highest level for 14-15 years and once you play for your country, you need to achieve continuously. I feel I’ve had enough of International Football. From my personal side, I feel I’ve achieved quite a lot and it’s time for me to stop now and focus entirely on club football. I have consulted my family and it’s an unanimous decision.

What has been your best moment while playing for India?
For me each and every match which I played for India has been a cherished moment. After all, not all get a chance to represent your country. I’ve been a member of many winning squads but the triumph in the AFC Challenge Cup has to stay on the top of the list. Besides, representation in the 2011 Asian Cup is something which I will carry all throughout with me.

I need to focus on club football and I want to be playing at the top level for another minimum five-six years.

Has there been any change in the state of Indian football when you first joined the National squad and now?
A lot! The football played nowadays is entirely different. The present lot is a more confident unit who understands the value of holding onto the ball. Earlier, the primary focus stayed in clearing the ball. Nowadays, there’s more constructive play. The mind stays pre-dominant in the brand of football we play now. The attitude and the fitness of the players have improved leaps and bounds.

Off the field, I’d say at present there are a lot of sponsors which is a healthy sign. The players get better facilities to stay and eat – that wasn’t the case earlier. Moreover, the amount of exposure tours has only added to our confidence.

Mahesh Gawli got his jersey checked by the Match Commissioner
Asked to take a pick, who would you pick as your best partner as a stopper-back. Also, who do you consider as the most dangerous Indian forward?
Robert Fernandes is one from whom I’ve learnt a lot. He stays one of my personal favourite as a partner in defence. And there’s Deepak Mondal. We spent four years at the TFA and later on partnered each other in defence. The telepathy between us was amazing. He has always been a class act.

Speaking of forwards, there’s always a certain IM Vijayan and a Bhaichung Bhutia. They always made the task difficult for defenders.

A defender, despite all his versatility doesn’t necessarily become a star. How do you explain that?
It’s a trend world over. But within the team, a defender is looked up to the most even by the ‘biggest star.’ The sport is about 11 players – there’s a star in every department. I have no regrets in what I have achieved. Over the years, my teammates and coaches have understood my value – that’s one of my most prized possession.

Who are the next defenders in India who can make it big?
Prayag United’s Arnab Mondal is playing well at the moment. He’s tough yet confident. Then, there’s Raju Gaikwad (Kingfisher East Bengal) and Dempo’s Crescent Antao. Gourmangi Singh is a senior pro now and stays the guiding force for all. I’d love to see Anwar Ali make a comeback into the National squad. Besides, Ravanan (Churchill Brothers), Anas Edathodika (Pune FC) and Gurwinder Singh (Kingfisher East Bengal) are also talented youngsters.

The Science behind Sachin’s Nervous Ninety

Dr K K Aggarwal
Padma Shri and Dr B C Roy National Awardee
President, Heart Care Foundation of India

One more four and a world record of hundred centuries. Oops….. he is out and no record. This is what Sachin Tendulkar is facing.

This is what is called as ‘Performance Anxiety’ in medical language and in cricket words the term is often used as ‘nervous 90’.
In cricket performance anxiety is also seen when you are facing the first ball. Many players get out on the very first ball.

The physiology is at the sub-conscious level. There is a sudden rush of sympathetic over activity with influx of chemicals like adrenaline or non-adrenaline, which increases pulse rate, blood pressure, increased sweating and leads to impairment in the fine skills and judgment.

A person in acute anxiety cannot thread a needle, as the fineness required for the same will not be there. Medically one can find presence of fine tremors on the fingers.

TO be or not TO be
Many marital disharmonies are also the result of first night nervousness. One of the commonest causes of erectile dysfunction in males is performance anxiety. Such people may have erectile dysfunction with a particular partner and not with the other. Extra marital affairs are also associated with performance anxiety in many cases.
Facing an interview, an adolescent on his first date, appearing in an exam or viva, are also common situations affected by performance anxiety. Quite often one may find that a student who has been doing well throughout the year fails to score good marks in the final exam. That is one reason why the western schools do not believe in the final exam results but on the overall performance of the year.
People who have marfanoid features, where the out-stretch arm length is more than the height, are especially prone to get episodes of anxiety. Seven percent of normal population may have these features.

Performance anxiety also increases in people who regularly smoke, consume tobacco or take alcohol more than permissible limits. Many herbs, which have actions like ephedrine and amphetamine, can also precipitate it. Tea, coffee and cola in excess can have cardiac stimulatory action and precipitate anxiety.

Fight and flight reactions are the most primitive reactions of the body. Performance anxiety belongs to one such reaction. Learning primordial sound meditation and done for 20 minutes twice daily regularly can shift one from sympathetic to para sympathetic mode and develop resistance towards this condition.

Yoga nidra, yoga shavasana, progressive muscular relaxation, mind-body relaxation, alternative nostril pranayama, regular walking, etc. are other exercises described in Vedic literature which helps stabilization of sympathetic nervous system in the body.

PLEASE SAVE OUR GREENS

PB MISHRA
Jt. Secretary,
SUKH DUKH KE SATHI SANSTHA

It is a matter of great concern that the painful activity of ruthless cutting of heavy branches of trees has been repeated by some unscrupulous elements with much more vigour and intensity in nearby area of last reported similar incident two months back, now outside the Paramount and Basawa International Schools near Vardhman Shopping Mall of Sector-23 Dwarka. SUKH DUKH KE SATHI SANSTHA of Sector-22/23 Dwarka has reported this incident again to The Deputy Conservator of Forest of Forest Department, Govt NCT of Delhi under intimation to Dy. Director(Horticulture), DDA, Sector-5 Dwarka for finding out the culprit and to take necessary action against them under law of land as cutting of the green tree branches of such big dimensions is a punishable offence. The Sanstha has also requested them that if such big green trees are being ruined for protection of the cables passing over these trees, the concerned departments may be compelled to install the cables underground and until underground laying of the cables is completed, the obstructing tree branches may be gently groomed with the assistance of some responsible representative of Horticulture Department, in the interest of conservation of greenery.

It is surprising that the Forest Department did not take any concrete action on the report and request made by SUKH DUKH KE SATHI SANSTHA on such a vital issue in October 2011, despite on the spot inspection by their staff. It is hoped that good sense will prevail now at least. The residents of Dwarka, who love their beautiful sub-city, should also come forward now and use their resources to force the concerned authorities in their own manner, for protection our greenery from the callous hands.
