It's all about 'Power of re-use'..

Dear Friends,

A Bamboo bridge built in Assam, a pond cleaned in a remote corner of Orissa and many such development works across the country; That’s how the discarded material of cities is turning into a big resource under GOONJ’s nationwide initiative ‘Cloth for work’Genesis of a parallel economy, as ‘Management Experts’ are calling it!!

Every small article that we collect from you- from cloth, utensils to footwear - is given as a reward, with a lot of self respect. The effort goes beyond the realm of charity and adds value to the entire process…It’s all about shifting focus from donor’s pride to receiver’s dignity!!
In 21 states with over 250 partner groups, GOONJ is channelising 80 to 100 tones of material every month, yet….the demand is much more than the supply!

Now it’s your turn to get involved…to make a difference..Do participate in ‘Joy of Giving Week’ and become a part of nationwide initiatives Vastra Samman & School to School from October 2nd to 8th.  Like last year, the idea is to spread across the country.

Do refer- http://crm.goonj.org/link.php?M=90890&N=50&L=16&F=H for details on how to organize a camp!! Some of our urgent requirements for the pan India campaigns are- space in a few cities, transport support, mobile messaging and financial contributions apart from hundreds of volunteers!!

Also join us for the 'Rahat Floods', relief efforts in parts of Assam, Bihar & West Bengal, which are going through some unnoticed, far away from media’s eye- floods. Beside our regular dispatches, GOONJ is also working closely there in view of upcoming winters which are always a big disaster in these parts of the country. We are looking forward to large amounts of dry ration, woolens, tarpaulin, lanterns, blankets and utensils.
On an encouraging note, GOONJ’s work on making sanitary pad an issue is getting a wider audience now. Please refer-http://www.ecowalkthetalk.com/blog/2011/05/26/goonj-not-just-a-piece-of-cloth/ to know more about the gravity of the subject and to understand the impact of our work.

Time to gear up for Marathon also- as runner or as supporter!! GOONJ is participating in The Delhi Half Marathon (27th Nov’ 2011) and Mumbai Marathon (15th Jan ’2012). This is the time hundreds of people run for a cause they believe in. Corporate teams, dream runners and individuals, there are many ways to run for GOONJ.. Please write back to https://mail.google.com/mail/h/12pbqkljz8ogs/?&v=b&cs=wh&to=ruchika@goonj.org for more details.

In addition to GOONJ centres, you can now give material to Pantaloons stores across the country under ‘Joy Exchange’; a joint initiative ofPantaloons and GOONJ.
