The Dwarkaites are paying highest water charges across Delhi and further increase is also in the pipeline. This has been disclosed by the Delhi Development Authority in reply to an RTI application filed by M K Gupta, Jt. Secy. of the Dwarka Forum on behalf of the Forum. The situation is so grave that for many residents of Group Housing Societies, the monthly bills even surpasses the electric bills due to amount incurred for the purchase of water tankers by the Management from private suppliers at exorbitant rates as DDA fails to meet the entire requirement. The situation in the DDA pockets is worse.
The DDA has informed that the Delhi Jal Board is raising the water charges to @7.60 per Kilo Litre for Dwarka. The Chairperson of DJB is Mrs. Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister and it appears that the DJB considers the Dwarkaites richest persons in entire Delhi. DJB is therefore taking the highest charges from them but supplying meager quantity of water making them dependent on private water tankers.
The present break-up of rates as informed by the DDA is Rs 4.52 as cost of water plus Rs 1.76 Boosting Charges and 2 paisa per K.L. cess. From the reply, it is not clear whether the cess is including in Rs. 6.28 or extra. The information has been annexed with the covering letter sent by Shri J P Singh, SE (HQ) Dwarka.
Gupta has come to know that DJB supplies water to its customers at Rs. 2.00 per K.L. plus cess in the rest of Delhi. (This is subject to confirmation from the members. However, in these areas, the bill consist sewer charges too of around one rupee).
