DISCUSSION ON UNIFIED CONSTITUENCY, CHANGE OF NAME, ISSUE OF UID CARDS

A discussion on the unification of Dwarka Assembly Constituency took place on 1st May, in the presence of S.P. Marwah former Election Commissioner, Delhi and Kripa Ram Sharma, Nodal Officer. All the speakers supported the demand of a unified constituency for Dwarka and till that is achieved demanded that the name of Matiala Constituency should be changed to Dwarka.   The discussion was organized by Dwarka Lok Manch and Dwarka City newspaper jointly. Starting the discussion, D.P. Vajpayee, President of the Manch said at least four councillors should be from Dwarka area.  A resolution proposed by M K Gupta for the change of name was also adopted.

Apart from the office bearer of the Manch, the meeting was also attended by Ms. Kamaljit Seharawat, who was a candidate for the MLA seat from the area, Mukesh Sinha, Editor, Dwarka City and social activist, Rejimon CK, Sushil Kumar, Ashok Chaitanya and M.K. Gupta, all from Dwarka Forum, K S Bhati and Hari Chand, both Advocates, Sanjay Agarwal of Shyam Khatu ji, Pramod Tiwari, Ranjit Singh, office bearers of CGHS and RWAs and large number of residents.  Ms. Sehrawat added that out of 23 sectors, 16 sectors come under Matiala and the Dwarka is divided in three parts.  In comparison of Dwarka, the voters at Matiala are very less but still the Dwarka name to this constituency has been given. Mukesh Sinha said that this is not the fight for the name only but is for the identification of Dwarka too.  K.S. Bhati advocate said that all the facilities of district level including consumer court, SDM office, voter’s registration, office of MCD for all with all the departments dealing with public should be at Dwarka. 

Responding to the demands, S.P Marwah, former Election Commissioner, Delhi  opined that in 2001, there was meager population and now there is no chance of renaming the constituency till the next delimitation takes place which will submit report be on the basis of the censes of 2031.  However, some seats for the MCD Councillors can be renamed as Central or South Dwarka etc.
