RESIDENTS COMMENTS ON WORKING OF DWARKA POLICE

M K GUPTA
In the wake of crimes situation in Dwarka, I have collected some opinions form some residents on the law and order on the working of Police at Dwarka Sub-city. Their comments are given below:
Shri Nitin Gupta from Dwarka gushes, “Many incidents has happened and still happening. A common man is always helpless. Police is good for nothing. Every time they cry for lack of resources and if you see what their resources do, you envy. Ironically, FIR is meaningless until and unless you have any high approach. With due course of time people forgets and police cleans the record saying victim didn't came back. They don't understand that victim didn't came back does not mean that there job is done. What they market, vigilance... help police and police help will you. Their slogan is “Delhi Police is always at your steps. They are hopeless people. None of there departments are synchronized. If you report to PCR, you have to again report to local police station and every time you visit, you have report it again. He calls his subordinates and do not listen to him in first two calls.... resource scarcity...oops.... and you got to listen "dekhiyee aap hamare pass aaye, humnee kaam kiya, kaun kehta hai kee police kaam nahi karti".
Shri Hari Dev Goyal, Vice President, Dwarka Forum and President, Kamakshi Apartments, retd. Economic Adviser to the Govt. of India and now holding many prestigious positions says, “I have been victim of theft in August, 2009 from my car parked in the service lane in front of Sector - 6, market, just behind the police post. FIR was registered at the Dwarka, Sector-23 Police Station but no action has been taken so far. Normally, action is taken only if any political or bureaucratic pressure is there. Presumably every police station has to send monthly report of crimes to the higher authorities and this report should be voluntarily disclosed for the residents to know the status of crimes in the Sub-city. Police should give reasons of not registering the FIR and instead keeping the complaint in Daily Diary (DD) number”.
Shri Dhananjay Deshpandey points out, “My wife's purse was picked up by breaking my car's window some time in August from Sec 6 market near DAV School. I enquired with the shopkeepers and they said that it happened even if police van is standing by. I have lodged compliant on 100 and they told me that they will come in 15 minutes, I waited on the spot for more than an hour but no one came. The reforms are needed to change the policing system should get top priority”.
Shri O.P. Khanduja from Sector 4 states, “I have come across couple of people in my own apartments, who have been victim of chain snatching. They have not spoken good or have good experience about the police as there was no consolation rather it was straight denial of lodging the FIR/complaint by the police.”
M. K. Gupta, social activist from Sector 10 states, “It is common knowledge that even in cognizable crimes, police does not write FIR easily unless pressurized to do so and without it an FIR, there is no reason for the Police to try to catch the culprit. Thana Level Committees should be made more representative and the contacts details of its members should be displayed at the Police Stations. It is surprising that there is no representation of Dwarka Forum in the Committees for two Police Stations at Dwarka. The Forum is an registered body with over 2010 on-line members.”
