Delhi govt to expedite 2010 Games projects: CM - ISBT at Dwarka

THE Delhi Government will expedite work on the 2010 Common Wealth Games projects, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today at a review meeting.

Dikshit, while addressing a high level sub-committee meeting today, added that review meetings would be held every three months. She also asked all the agencies involved to ensure quality, and stick to deadlines.

The meeting was attended by PWD Minister Dr AK Walia, Health Minister Dr Yoganand Shastri, Education Minister Arvinder Singh, Chief Secretary Ramesh Narayanswami, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries of Delhi Government and senior officers from all local bodies, IOA, Sports Ministry, Ministry of Railways, Delhi Police, DDA and DUAC.

Among the new initiatives discussed at the meet included plying of electric buses inside the Village and formulation of a policy on advertisements as large hoardings are banned.

It was reported during the meeting that 27 new flyovers and bridges would be commissioned before December 2009. Of these, 13 would provide connectivity to the village, venues and hospitals while the remaining would provide intra-city connectivity. Improvement and upgradation of Tyagraj Sports Complex and Talkatora Stadium were also discussed.

Construction of two new ISBTs at Dwarka and Narela would commence by December 2007 while the re-development of Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar, Sarai Kale Khan ISBTs is in the pipeline. A 20-bedded polyclinic in the Village with connectivity to super specialty hospitals would be commissioned, the report said.

Issues relating to improvement in the vicinity of Old Delhi and New Delhi railway stations, improved street lighting and adequate fire protection and beautification and landscaping were also discussed.
