The first arrests were made last Friday when Vinay Kumar and Tejinder Singh were arrested near PVR Vikaspuri while delivering the heroin consignment. The arrests led police to Kerala native Kalpesh, who was arrested the next day with 2 kg of heroin, from the Nawada Metro Station on the Indraprastha-Dwarka Metro line.
Joint Commissioner of Police Karnail Singh said: “During the interrogation of five accused, we found that entire network is being run from Pakistan by two Pakistanis, namely Zulfikar and Afzal, both residents of Lahore. It was also learnt that Vinay Kumar and Tejinder Singh are their main conduits. While Vinay Kumar was responsible for the distribution network in Delhi, Tejinder was the main supplier from Amritsar.”
Afzal had visited India three times before, delivering a consignment in the first week of December. He and his accomplice Zulfikar would normally operate from around the international Pakistan-India border at Amritsar tossing across 1 kg packets over the fence to a person on the other side. The payment would be done through hawala channels with the help of Vinay, an Amritsar exporter.
Afzal had to come over to India this time because there was a dispute over the quality of drugs supplied the last time. Afzal would normally procure the heroin from agents in Peshawar. (Expressindia.com)Labels: Police
